not my image, but found with google images... shows the stress bars clearly. some feathers may break along the stress bars and have chunks missing from the sides or the shaft may bend or break easily also.

I had high hopes for showing her. My buckeye hen lost an eye. What the heck could have happened? Definitely either accident or attack... I have no idea. She is acting completely normal but her eye is uh... gone/broken... I shudder thinking about it. I'm going to put some actual antibiotic cream (made for eye infections in poultry) to prevent infection after I clean it out. Otherwise I'm sure she will be fine. She is eating/drinking/moving around okay. I have separated her because I don't want to draw attention to her eye in front of the other chickens and cause more issues.
Poor thing. She was so beautiful tooI had high hopes for showing her.
At least she can still be used in breeding.
wonder what happened?? At least she seems to be acting fine. It's amazing how resilient chickens are.I know rightOh that's so sadwonder what happened?? At least she seems to be acting fine. It's amazing how resilient chickens are.![]()
Poor girl. I hate to keep her separated, but I don't want her to have to fight for food or risk her being pecked in her eye as it's healing.
I mean a hawks a hawk and they all want a chicken snack no matter what type of hawk it is! Ohh she is so pretty!!! Poor thing ... Is there a docile silkie or someone you could put with her?? Oooh do they make a chicken eye patch

Maybe... I should try that. She is in the supply room and gets the people only access. She nested in the hay overnight.Ohh she is so pretty!!! Poor thing ... Is there a docile silkie or someone you could put with her??
So sorry that happened. Are you sure that it is gone? I had a polish hen who is always running into everyone and getting lost, and she was pecked in the eye. It was swollen for a couple of days while I applied AB ointment to it, and about 3 days later the eye became visible again. It didn't even become cloudy, so I think she still can see, at least when I trim her feathers, LOL.My buckeye hen lost an eye. What the heck could have happened? It is mangled looking. All I see is black goo. I'm thinking it was cut into and is still there, but definitely can't be usable. I'll have to take a picture. It's not swollen shut (yet anyway)So sorry that happened. Are you sure that it is gone? I had a polish hen who is always running into everyone and getting lost, and she was pecked in the eye.
