Aoxa where are you getting crests on your BPR, are they from the Houdans? Almost look like Legbar crests.

I have no idea what happened there. It's not from a Barred Rock egg, so must be fathered by a Barred Rock.. It has a beard, so it makes no sense! Could be Phoenix over a barred Naked Neck...





But that would make the chick a male.. sex linked.


And it is 13 Weeks in this picture. Single comb. I was thinking it was female, but now that you asked how I got here.. I'm thinking it may be a black sex link...

Wait.. Maybe it was from Tina's egg... with the father being Cletus (a BPR)... That's the only other option, and the one I'd guess if it were a female. Tina had a bearded silkie mother (but is not expressing the beard herself). This could be hers...

Anyone have any genetic thoughts on this?

Shoveled a path for the girls. The pop door wasn't open. I brushed off the solar panel & still nothing. I think I am going to have to buy the electric connection for it :/. I was hoping the solar panel would be enough for winter to open/close the door. Anyone have the solar powered version pop door and have any suggestions?

The big girls came right out. The tots were chowing down on the flock block. I sure hope they venture outside eventually. The electro netting is still standing. I am going to leave it up till the snow is here to stay. Its suppose to warm up again towards the end of the week.

I put up some clear shower curtains on the kennel side as an experiment and they are holding really well and giving a good wind block. The test one I have is right where it blocks the wind/show from the pop door area and it is working very well.

I'll have to get a couple photos of how I attached. Going to put up at least 2 more.

Wanted CLEAR so they could still see any predators easily instead of regular tarps. I tried some "so-called-clear" tarps but not clear enough to see a hawk or predator coming toward the kennel so I gave up on those. Anyhow, so far I've been very pleased with how well the clear vinyl shower curtain is holding. I'll do some photos later and find out what mil the PEVA is. Got them at Lowes. dark legs are common to many breeds, but easter eggers stand out for me. they typically (but not always) have pea comb, beard and ear muffs...

but if she's a mix of mixed birds, pinpointing her lineage would be next to impossible. you can sometimes guess by her mature shape/stature, comb type, and overall feathering (hard or soft) but even then it's still a guess... when she starts laying, egg color could help you narrow it down a bit more, but again you're still guessing.

Ok just wondering if anyone has BCMs? Sophie is 29 weeks and no eggs yet. This week I noticed her comb has finally reddened up. She has also seemed to double in size. Anyone have any thoughts?

I am thinking it has to be soon?

And for those who have no white stuff.......but electro netting is still up !!

Girls are not impressed. Only went out when I took some scratch out for them. I think if Stella poofs out anymore she will look like a blowfish she was quite vocal when I took a couple pics. Her breath puffing out its so cold. Maybe she was telling me she was not impressed I am in the house with the woodstove
