The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

My smallest hen lays the largest eggs..you can't close the cover to the egg carton if her eggs are inside. She is a rock/cornish cross and she was so tiny 4 years ago when she hatched and she grew so slow. She loves to be a mom, but starts to loose them after about a week.

She is very attentive when they are new..she seems to think they all need to keep up after a week. She usually returned with one or two missing.

all of these chicks and she has two left..they are 14 weeks old.

she has 4 of these left..they are almost a month now. She lost all of the Wyandottes..

Newb question:
What breed(s) is she?
I like the pattern on her feathers.
She's very pretty!!!

She's a Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock.

Vicki, can you come comment on a post on FB about the CX as mothers?

They seem to think CX can't hatch and raise their own...

They're so cute following her around!!!
I'd hate it for mine to loose so many. =(

well, he's still got some membrane stuck over 1 eye, but i'm hesitant to pull it off for fear of tearing his eyelid... so for now it'll stay there and it'll come off when it comes off. right now he seems fine navigating with just 1 eye. looks all around him and then makes a beeline in one direction. LOL still not standing well, but that may just be because he was cramped up for going on 3 extra whole days. still making him drink when I think about it, and he seems to be trying to figure out the crumbles too while avoiding the stampeding 7.
