The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

A great repurpose coop idea and design..plus a lesson in homelessness..makes you understand how well we really have it..

I wonder how many bottles would be needed to make a goat shed for 2 adults and possible offspring till they are sold. If I had a good way of obtaining the bottles and sand free, I would try it. With children to fill the bottles the building time would not be so bad. Of course then I would still need a fence most likely a privacy fence to keep the goats hidden.

Scott:  I dare you!

AFL:  I am totally speechless...  I want to tell you how cruel you are to post that pic when we're enduring neg temps, but all I can do is be so totally, overwhelmingly JEALOUS!

LaLa:  I thought that day's didn't start getting longer until after the 21st.  What am I missing here???

I thought so too!  but npr's weather guy said no, it actually starts a few days before solstice, and it was increasing now!  just a minute or some tiny amount, but an increase.

The warm 86 degrees were only for a week but you better believe I enjoyed them :) I am not someone whimsun baths but I read and walked the beaches and swam tap lol I could, it was a once in a lifetime trip so I tried to enjoy it to the fullest.

Shorter days mean SPRING IS CLOSER .........ok not really but its nice to think so :)

those 60,000 bottles was for a two room home..I think they said 900 sq feet. Determine how big you want it and start saving bottles. Call your local recycling center and find out if they have sand.

Looks good in theory, however, I think those plastic bottles are not UV resistant. I predict break down and leaking sand in less than 10 years. A LOT of work for a very short term fix. IMO, straw bale construction would be more durable and more of a long term solution. But, only if the ridiculously over inflated price of straw in the US was brought back in line with the acual worth of the product: waste left after grain harvest. Do I sound jaded? I am.
