The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I'd love to have a Kindle, but agree with lazy gardener about trusting the "cloud" for storage. Does anyone know, can I put pdf files (or any file formats) on a flash drive and then use that in the Kindle? I already keep MANY papers and websites in pdf format, so if I could use a flash drive with the Kindle I'd be sold.

No you can't use a flash drive, but you can transfer some files via a micro usb cord. I love my Kindle, but you are really limited to just Amazon content.

Single and happy man?
Nice try.

I LOVE your dorm!  Do you have some photos of the outside of your building?  How long and wide is it?  :pop

Thanks! It isn't very cute, but it is very functional and was easy to construct.

Here, I hope, is a link to a thread about it ... https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/700786/greenhouse-coop-conversion

There is at least one more photo toward the end of the thread that shows a shed we built at the top end of the coop. There is another section of greenhouse beyond that ... So the total length of the "building" is so far uncalculated.

The part where the video is filmed is we have the General Population and is about 10.5' wide by 70' long.

I agree nice set up. Do you let your chickens out to forage?

Yes. Like that thread shows, there is a pasture for the birds ... But we've expanded it a lot since then. Some birds escaped the pasture and free range and sleep in other coops, but most stay in the pasture. We are going to start a pasture expansion project very soon. I've posted some photos about that in another thread.

We are contemplating letting the birds free-range until we start the pasture expansion project. But the free range rooster is a little bit feisty and not as large as the other guys ... we recently got rid of several cockerels and are enjoying the relative peace. So have been slow to decide ...

Oooohhhhh. I see.
Thanks.
Just sew the burlap in the shape of a pillow case, I double sew the seams. I use a pretty wide zigzag stitch and sew the two long seams, then turn the back inside out and sew the seam again catching the seam allowance in the new stitched seam, helps to prevent unraveling.

THIS IS NOT AN ECOGLOW...

I just saw today that Premier is selling heating plates also.

I get the catalog and there is more info and more photos in the catalog. Interesting thing about these is that they sell an optional top that is a kind-of dome that comes up to a point so that they don't stand on it and poo. Just putting this out there FYI.

I'm told they are less expensive than the ecoglow.
