The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Quote: I had 3 different set dates in 2 different bators... look down for the first set is tomorrow... so we shall see.
Power was off for 2 hrs and bators got down to 75.

Lambs calves, chicks, and maremma.... always have lots of pics of critters around here. Although it's rare that they ever see snow.
Took this one this afternoon after about 3" of snow and 13 degrees. Pretty uncommon for this "neck o da woods".
The maremma is my older girl Flo.

that pose makes it look like she's wondering what that thing in your hands is, and whether it's something that could attack her lambs... LOL

Now, it's a tough decision... is it more fun to cuddle a little puppy with puppy breath, or a newly hatched human child???
yeah....that's a tough one.... I like the good dose of puppy breath that I can cuddle the puppy and give them back to their rightful owner (don't get me wrong-- I love my dog but I don't want a constant dose of puppy breath... and training...and cleaning up after them.) I enjoy a trained dog over the puppy breath. Now, the newly hatched human child.... I prefer them to be my own and to keep them! BEST EXCUSE EVER to sit in the rocking recliner and do absolutely.nothing.else! ... not to mention...baby people aren't running and making messes at 6 weeks

yeah but they train a whole lot faster... give me a 12 week old standard poodle and he'll be house broken in 3-4 days usually. LOL
bonus on the puppy, if you need to go somewhere in a hurry, he goes in the crate and stays there till you get home. can't do that with a skin kid.

(I've decided to start puppy shopping for a spring pup... undecided on color so far).

I don't see his poo on the chart but here's a pic.

My wheel barrel tire was messed up so we turned the litter anf left it. Yall judge my litter.. would you remove it all?

They enjoyed the yogurt\spice slurry and the water has probiotic powder in it. I took a video but its huge , 174 megabyte. Here hebis giving me the cold shoulder..

I don't know about the poo--- I would think that if he is eating stuff out of the straw that he isn't used to eating it could change the color... I am not one to judge anyone else's litter. The straw in the nesting boxes looks real good-- is the other stuff more chaffy (is that even a word?) or is like what is in the nesting boxes? I imagine smaller particles might be more dusty and could cause sinus issues and funny stuff in digestion.... I would just make sure that in the cooler weather (if it is cold there) that they are getting a good dose of water!!!!

I just don't speak puppy. Love my dog because someone else took the time to train her. Even then I messed it up. She squats to pee every time I say hurry up;)

that's true but when you get a puppy-- you get a small tragedy.... chances are, you are going to outlive that thing.... and it is going to end in heartbreak! (Not that kids don't break your heart....cause they definitely do......)

Its the same straw in both places. The rooster doesn't spend much time in straw. His bedding is pine. There is straw in the run but they dont spend time in the run. The girls coop with the straw was oddly on the dry side

Do you have a dust bath in the girls coop that you add material too? I have found that both wood ash and DE seem to dry out the areas surrounding the dust bath.

If it helps I have had very intense shades of green (lime and dark) and purple poop after feeding cabbage, kale, etc.
