The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Thanks for all the suggestions! They have my wheels turning. I love the pizza cutter idea!
I obviously know how the hog was raised, humanely in my barn paddock, and surely well fed! But I purposefully did not deworm for past few months as I did not want any of that in our food source. But she was dewormed twice and she was only 6.5 months old. She could have had parasites as she was living on a natural surface (dirt/mud). Still think the raw is ok? My inclination is to feed raw but want to be safe too.

yes. parasites rarely affect the meat itself. most are intestinal, but as long as you don't contaminate the meat while butchering, then you'll be fine.

Got my heat plate. Kiddos and I are getting used to it and getting things set up. This is how they've situated themselves so far.

Seriously - these kiddos should have a mamma.

I was just about mauled ....took some left over lasagna to the chickens I cut it up a lot first..and cut up a couple hamburgers.."Excuse for getting " not for me right now .... tell hubby Chickens are good for the environment keep lots of waste out of landfills and less trash for you to take out when i clean the fridge the chickens will eat the leftovers....

I was thinking about those when I brought them home. I'm concerned about the regular feather dusters as I think they're treated with something to attract dust to them. I took a look at one of the stores but didn't find any.

That's what I was trying to do with the towel originally. I had it set up a bit better to make them a mamma
