I hope you get back on here soon... I would love to hear about your immunity winter slurry in pumpkins.... please
For 10 birds:
One medium pumpkin cut in half. Take out 5-10 seeds for next years planting. You are going to fill the pumpkin halves with the slurry.

Grind:

4 heads of garlic..that's right..heads. You do not need to pull them apart, I toss in the whole head
2 large carrots
one bunch of spinach
a large sprig of Oregano
2 red cayenne peppers
2 1/2 cups of water



Delisha, what breed(s) are those in the first two photos? They are GORGEOUS!

Do you toss all of this into the blender and then pour it into the pumpkin halves?

And how often do you give them this slurry?

I'm looking into getting a meat grinder. For those of you that grind up you own meat, which one do you recommend? We have a breeder set of turkeys and I hope to raise turkeys for meat next spring. Turkey burgers go over well here.

Okay. I'm going to quote what he said in his text msg:

He said that the motor size is not as important as the throat size. Said, "If she wants a really good one, get the biggest throat you can find. You can have a big motor but if you are restricted by the amount you can load its useless."

He asked how much you would do? Since he's doing up to 6 deer every season, he got a more expensive one from Gander Mountain (Said his cost about $1000.) But that for just doing a bit now and then probably any grinder would work okay.

There is a store over in the Shipshewana area that carries several grinders in their store. I never knew to look at the neck size so I can't tell you how they compare to these. I could call them and get info on what they carry if you would like.
 
Right now I just plan to do turkeys. I think I'll be more on the small scale since anything larger than a turkey would need to go to a processing place. We don't have the help to actually process a goat on our property. Or even the place to let it cure / rest correctly.

For turkeys when they are going to be ground up for turkey burgers, do they need to rest still?
 
I can see why the throat size is important. Yet I can't seem to find it listed in the descriptions. I found 2 that look really good. They are both on sale. One is less than 200 and the other is less than 500. I'm going to spend lots more time reading reviews and even force myself to get out to the mall where there is a gander mountain store to see one in person.

Oh good. I didn't know you had a Gander Mtn. We don't have them up here.

I hope that the store will have people working there that actually use them. My "deer" friend (pun intended) up here would be glad to talk to you about them too if you'd like. I can pm you how to contact him.
