I don't remember which hatchery, but at least one of them actually has a written recommendation for the small flock owner to not vaccinate for Mareks.

My guys and gals love when I clean out the goat pen! All of the straw and left over hay! They are in heaven!
Raked up shavings from cutting wood & grass clippings and tossed them in the coop. Girls are busy, busy moving it around. Along with the hay & weeds I tossed in the compost. I don't think I've seen them so quiet in a long time. They are very busy concentrating on digging thru the hay and weeds lol
I transplanted my cabbage, beans and peppers to the side of the garden. They are all still growing. I want to get the cover crop down this weekend in the garden. It's suppose to be 80 on Tuesday !!

One question. How do you believe your got Mareks in your flock? We need to know that so that we can be prepared for prevention.

I don't know if she's online now but I can answer your question.
Part of her flock she had vaccinated for Marek's the new additions, she didn't.
The vaccine we can get does not work. Hatcheries use a version that is injected into the eggs. What is the risk in vaccinating a backyard flock for Marek's? Is it because the vaccinated birds can carry Marek's and then pass it on to any new additions that were not vaccinated?
