The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I grew up in Vancouver, but live now 5hrs north on the coast . I'm a prairie or east coast coast girl at heart

I can see Vancouver Island from the beach just down the road from my house. I grew up going to Vancouver the big city every weekend. That's where my mom preferred to get her groceries way back before you needed a passport and there were no three hour waits at the border on weekends. My husband and I used to take our kids camping up in BC. Good memories. I'm 40 miles from the border as the crow flies.

I grew up in South Langley, so we were crossing the line all the time to go to Bellingham!!

I am randomly allergic to apples now! It came about when I turned 30 . I miss them so much, but my throat swells up!

O.K....one quick fruit cake story (guess it's related to chickens if eggs are used in the recipe?) My sis in law is a school teacher and every year one student or another would give her a fruit cake for Christmas. We laughed about it...so she took one and re-gifted it to my son one year. He left it in the original wrapping paper, changed the tag and gave it back to her the next year...and of course he got it back the following year...this went on for about five years...and then the fruitcake disappeared. We've always wondered what happened to it. It's probably petrified by now.

The recipe I love for fruit cake is wonderful !! not the typical fruit cake!

I can of peaches in heavy syrup (cut the peaches( use 1/2 the juice)
1 can of Pineapple in heavy syrup (cut up(use 1/2 the juice)
1 small jar of cherries (no juice)
1/2 c sugar
1 pkg yeast

put in a glass bowl on the counter and lightly cover, stir 2x a day
divide in three parts and share 2 parts with family. They follow what you are doing

day one
add 2 cups sugar 1 peach cut up
stir 2x a day

day 10
add 1 can pineapple 2 cups sugar stir
keep stirring 2x a day

day 20
1 jar of cherries cut in half (no juice) 1 cup sugar
keep stirring 2x a day for 10 days

4 cups flour
11/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp BS

8 eggs slightly beaten
1 cup veg oil
3 cups of pecans

300

this makes 1 bunt pan and 2 bread pans
I mix all the dry and slowly add the wet and not over mix
