I have a kitchen aid too. Don't have the grinder...wonder if I could find one for a good price? I'm thinking I might use it more now that I have a good reason.

@armorfirelady
Is yours the stainless steel one?

Quote: I am sure that you could find one. You can find just about anything online.

The old ones were metal. The one that I have is plastic but it works well. My Mom had the veggie slicer from hers from years past & that is metal. MOst of the new ones are plastic.

I like going to estate sales. When I go, I look for old Kitchen aid accessories. Of course I look for other old things as well. I have found some great old things for the kitchen. I am stocking up on wooden utensils. I already have enough glass pans/bowls lol And an old wood hewn which I am going to use to tan a deer hide. :)

It does look like a great deal. Better than the Kitchen Aid attachment... but yet an other appliance to store in the kitchen. Ok folks, tell me: if you do have a grinder, what do you use it for... other than the obvious... grinding meat. And how often do you use it???

I have only used it for deer meat but I would like to get a half a cow & the meat grinder would easily let me make my own ground beef & package it easily. You could grind up just about anything in it I would think?

Just me but I would rather have an attachment for something that I already own than buy another appliance.

Rural king has a grinder they are offering a rebate on. If I can get to the store it looks like a great deal.

Not really such a good deal. You have to pay the full price of 89.98 plus tax (and shipping if not near you) in order to get the 59.98 price with a rebate. Their rebate policy is "Rebates are provided in the form of a Merchandise Rebate Card which can be used in-store AND online!" So you have to spend the rebate with them or just loose it. You can get the KitchenAid attachment online ranging from 45 to 80 dollars and most places get free shipping.

Thanks! I was going to look closer to see what the situation was and also wanted to see some reviews.

On the KA, I looked at reviews last night on the plastic and on another mfg. that makes a metal one that attaches. Of course, there were a lot of mixed reviews on them all. I'm not going to be using it every day...just need to do some every now and then.

I keep wondering if there might be any use at the local resale shops but I don't get to go out to the shops as much as I used to!

One nice thing about technology is that you don't have to get out in order to shop. Amazon list hundreds of meat grinders from heavy duty manual ones around 40 dollars to really fancy heavy duty electric ones over 1,000 dollars. Unless you are going to do a whole cow at once I would think a good manual grinder would work fine, fit a sustainable lifestyle and cost only around 35 dollars plus shipping.
