The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Husband finished up a couple things on my 'want' list this morning.

A holder for my three FF dishes.

And a turkey nest. I don't expect to have a laying turkey for another year but when I asked hubby if he would build me one 'just in case', this is what he came up with!

I do love a man who knows how to use his power tools!

I LOVE BOTH OF THESE IDEAS, but especially the wine barrel nesting box! Thanks for sharing Mumsy!
Kudos X2 to your hubby for his great creative skills, and his know-how with the tools

BDM, sorry to read of your possible incubation/hatch flop, (but if you have not candled the eggs, don't give up quite yet, give them a couple extra days just in case). My advice for your next batch of eggs tho, (if you can and you have the know how), is to try adding a cheap (or free) PC fan to the LG to make it a circulated air incubator, instead of still air. You may have better luck

Everybody's room temp and humidity fluctuations (and even elevation) can effect our hatching successes (or failures), so there is no one set straight answer/solution/line of advise out there that works for everybody. Hopefully you can find out what the secret combo is for you and your eggs. Don't give up tho!

not offended at all. but the important questions get buried in all of the Off Topic stuff. There is no reason a natural horse keeping thread can't be opened, a natural canning thread can't be opened etc. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way as I get pm's from many who agree but just aren't "speak their mind" types like me.
Keep after the rats. Change to a different bait if need be.

Is it possible to perhaps change the name of the thread? Every othe forum I have ever been on uses OT as 'off topic'. I think that perhaps it has been wrongly assumed that chit chat isn't welcome.

Quote: No you are 100% correct..Chit chat is not welcome by some. As Stoney has stated he has many people PMing him and supporting his position about no other information on this thread other then natural chicken keeping. Everyone is allowed to have feelings and share information even ones about that, and even yours about this. We would like more to participate in sharing information about natural chicken keeping and keeping this thread going with as much information as possible. Not only less chit chat, but, less negativity.

OT might mean off topic in some threads, but, if you go to the home page of back yard chickens it can lead you to the recourse section where it gives the thread of the acronyms and meanings. Aoxa did an additional one. It can be very confusing. I still need to look up some of them.

Thank you very much for your participation, please let us know how your birds are doing. I am glad you are here.

My chicken sitter says that my birds are fantastic this weekend. Looking forward to making it home to see them :). I was only
suggesting it so that newbies who come across the thread in the latest posts don't misunderstand and post something that causes a problem :). I honestly
Had no idea and feel bad contributing to the off topicness :)

Don't. I am a contributer and human. I talk about many things not related to natural chicken keeping.

Hows skiing?

My chicks under the broody are due to hatch next weekend. Depending on weather I might add heat. If we get below 0 I think I might have to. The DH is insisting. I wonder if I use a large insulated box and put in the brinsea it might work.

I can't actually ski because I tore my Achilles in the summer at karate and roller derby. Lol! But enjoying a relaxing
Time.

My blue maran who laid or
First egg last week didn't lay again before we went away. I asked the sitter to check for me because she was sitting in the nesting box for quite awhile on Friday, but haven't heard any more!

Getting excited to pick up my polish and frizzle chicks in March! Even though I was tired to brooding my last babies at home, I have forgotten. You all make me want to incubate eggs, or at least buy some if my

You will really enjoy your first broody experience. I hope you have a few Maran eggs when you get home.

Well...let me try this another way. I'm hoping it gets large enough to read if you click on it.

You might try copying that link I originally posted and pasting it into your browser...maybe that would work? Is anyone else having problems w/the link?
Thanks LM. I wasn't able to use the link. It told me I was "forbidden" to see the material. (never saw that warning before) Anyway, thanks for scanning. I was able to read the brochure just fine. Great info.
