You're not alone. Mine are doing the same. More so the older ones than the younger ones. A few will stray out. Almost 75% of them stay in the barn. Whiny children is what they are...I just want to whine a bit - the hens still refuse to leave the coop.
On weekends and Wednesdays, I am home to shoo them outside, and they will stay outside all day. But if I am working, and leaving in the dark, they stay inside all day! Today I tried leaving only water and a little tiny bit of feed in the coop, they cleaned the feed up and still stayed inside all day. I thought hunger would drive them out - given that they just spent two days in a row outside and given that there was no scary snow because I had a) shoveled, and b) covered some of the white stuff with hay.
dang.
so much better for them to be outside in fresh air and with more room - it is a small coop inside.
It isn't that cold, maybe 15 above zero, hardly any wind.
Yelling does not work..I am sure you know thatMy voice is hoarse from yelling at Clementine who escaped on me and would not return. Wish Bee was here to tell me how to get her to listen to my recall. She is doing so much better in every way but THAT. Drives me up the wall!
