The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

FF question. I brought my chicks home. They look great, put them in a box under the light in the basement, although I said no chicks in the basement!! Laying hen chicks gobble up the FF but the meat chicks are only picking at it. I even put chick crumbles on top of it.......it's the weirdest thing ever. I thought it would be the opposite.
I put 1c of chick crumbles in an ice cream bucket , filled the bucket with water and added braggs. After each feeding, I replace crumbles......do u continue to add water?? I thought I understood it until I put it all in the bucket and one box of chicks won't eat it and the other finishes it all up??

You continue to add water whenever you add feed.

How old are they?

It took my chicks a couple days to want to eat after hatching.

It seems everything I read online says blood always = cocci.
I do not want to treat with medicine. If they acted ill I would cull. However, none are.. So I'll just wait it out :)
I waited it out this summer and nothing came of it. So there has to be other reasons for bloody poop

When my SFH were just a little younger than that, I had a few blood spots in the poop. It was not cocci, thankfully. In their case, it seemed one or two had managed to grab a larger piece of gravel/grit than they were used to and it just caused a little bleeding... at least that is what we believe based upon the evidence - LOL.

Here's a good site on what is normal and what is not when it comes to chicken s#!+

None of those looks like the poop. The blood was minimal and around a solid poop. No runs.. Should I take a picture if I see it again?

Had to share my new gander with you all. He's so pretty..

Yes. He's supposed to look that fat

His name is Walter. After my bus driver growing up. He was 'fluffy' just like this gander.

So handsome! Has he met his soon to be partner yet?

Brought them home on Saturday, I use uacv in there water. I have a couple with pastey bottom, and I've been wanting to start FF. I'll just keep trying. It's only the meat chicks don't eat it the other chicks gobble it right up?

Quote: More and more are NPIP..At this time I breed here, and only purchase eggs for breed changing. The only Adult birds i have purchased have been my Imports. They have been through more testing than I do. I do not find it a problem at all. If I ever go to a show and find the bird of my dreams and they are not certified, I will change my mind.

You are NPIP?

They really should make it mandatory to test for MG.
