Not all bloody poops are cocci..you can smell cocci.... if you don't smell it......it is not cocci

Meat birds and FF..
stick beaks in it..as soon as they recognize it as food, you will need to fill your bowl..they will be fine once you clean off the pasty butts

Cocci smells? Like what?

You know...that brings up another question, Del.

I was reading an article regarding raising roosters in Backyard Poultry and the gal that wrote it said something I've never seen anyone of you experienced folks mention. It made me want to ask you, Stony, Aoxo, Mumsy.... and any other OTs (or is that ot ??) for your "take" on it.

She was talking about training a rooster to respect you as "top rooster" or dominant so he will be submissive in your presence. Pretty much what we've already learned from y'all here. Then she said this as part of that process:

"Whenever your rooster is breeding a hen, stop it immediately! Make it clear to him he is not allowed to "breed" in your presence. This tells him you are the dominant rooster and only you are allowed to "breed" the hens when you are around. A dominant rooster shows the submissive rooster his place by attacking him if he breeds a hen in the dominant's presence." Your thoughts, please

my thoughts. Why? Why deter a rooster from breeding? There are only 2 reasons to have a rooster. Flock protection and breeding.
ok.... thanks for the Pm. Back to the shop.

If your rooster isn't trying to flog you, you don't have to stop him.

If he is, you pushing him off is showing you are top rooster. A beta rooster will not mate in close proximity to the alpha, or he will get beaten. Kind of the same thing you kicking him off.

Definitely doesn't smell like that :) Good!

Yes I have had friends like that.

Wanted to show how I made "stair steps" with logs for the little kiddos. Hoping this may get the creative juices going for those w/new chicks and raised hen houses.

I had some logs cut up that need to burn on the "junk wood pile" so I made some stair steps with them for the kiddos that are hopping distance between each. I gave them a larger platform and an easy-to-see way back up.

What prompted this was one day BEFORE MOM EVER TOOK THEM OUT...
Mom was inside the hen house "going after" one of the other big girls for coming too near the chicks and in the fray, one of the chicks got knocked right out the pop door and onto the ground below. It was really cold out there (teens)...I just happened to be there to witness it. Mom DIDN'T KNOW the baby was out and took all the other kids to the other side of the house. Back on that side, she couldn't hear the baby calling her. I waited and observed for awhile but.....Baby was pacing back and forth at the base of the house loudly peeping but not able to find the ramp since it had never been out there before. It was right up against the wall and...the base of the ramp is not right up against the wall.

I finally ended up catching the baby and putting it back inside but it made me want to try to set something up that was easier to find just in case this happened and I wasn't there to make a rescue.... now perhaps mom would have finally found it, but in that cold...time is of the essence when you're only 2.5 - 3 weeks old.

These are photos from first day out - with the logs so you can see how I set them. (Of course, when MOM TAKES THEM OUT she'll be sure they find the ramp.)

When it was warm: the kiddos were 4.5 wks old and this was ONE DAY in the upper 50's (then it dropped back to the teens next day). The only day she took them outside.

Mom is on the ground to the left; CS is coming down the ramp (short for "Charlie's Sister" which is the other araucana.)

Interesting thought for the soy questions. Soy Isos are being used as a natural alternative for clomid (a fertility drug) by many people that aren't quite ready to go in to the doc for the actual RX. I have several online buddies that have loved it and a few that have hated it.

I was also curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks for posting.
