I agree with this as well.

Couple thoughts for your new barn- GFI outlets.......I have them in my garage & outside & those suckers pop easily with any moisture. They are also set to pop for power surges as well. Its the outlet I have my cord for the heated dog bowl plugged into it in my garage. I also use one for my dogs electric fence and will use another GFI outlet for the electric poultry fence. But I just checked them all again like Delisha did.

I also agree with her idea about the smoke detectors & baby monitor. I had thought of it earlier but forgot to mention it. And I think outside stairs to the upper area in the new barn is a good idea but I think having a roof over them would def be easier in the rain, ice & snowy weather. One less chore for you to do & it will be easier in the future with your family starting

Thank you so much for all that. I did not know what the special outlets were called. Glad you mentioned it.

I wonder if there is a smoke detector that I can hear up at the house from the barn itself?

That I dont know but I can see what I can find out from my friends in the fire service. I would think hard wired smoke detectors would be the best. And I would think you could get an alarm box in the house for them. I will have to do some investigating.

Now if you really had extra $$ or won the lottery....sprinklers in the ceilings would be the way to go. No worries except some soggy hay and birds if those go off.

Aoxa,

You can put an alarm system in the new barn. Rig it right to your home computer to go off. Same with monitors. I am sure there are a few computer geeks around that can give you some good information about that.

My sister had one for all of her buildings and property. Her horse barn is 1/4 mile down her driveway. If something is wrong she has it rigged for a bright light to beep and flash and the computer to start and monitors turn on if she is in bed sleeping. Most of the time it has been mountain lions or bears...

My Mother was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. She'll be 77 Friday, has a bad heart and her lungs are already compromised. Not sure how aggressive treatment can be.
Praying for you and your family.

Can two roos working out their differences cause my hens not to start laying? I moved all 3 of my roos out of the run early this morning and I noticed the females were out foraging earlier than normal even with the cold temperatures.

Is anyone else dealing with Countryside raising their prices nearly every month it seems? Our co-op was just told that there will be another $1 increase on bags March 7th.

We feed all organic, but heck, it's getting very expensive rather than just pricey!
