The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Ruptured air sac. It will go away. I've had it before, but never on a NN and I bet the nude neck makes it look worse than it is.

If it was bigger and continued to get bigger you would need to poke a hole to let air out or it will tear. It's usually caused by some type of trauma (tramped or something).
The air normally is absorbed back into the tissue. That's always how I've seen it happen. I've had 3 chicks over the last year like this. All were fine after a while.

Thanks Aoxa - I was soooo worried! Would it be best to separate the two turkens for a few days just to be safe. My other one looks like it might have a small one too... If it gets bigger, what do you suggest I use to let the air out?

I would use a sterilized needle maybe. I don't think you will have to.

You could separate to be safe. Don't want it to tear from rough housing of the other birds, but that may never happen either. Make sure she has a friend though :) Most preferably a quiet one.

She is NaNa for naked neck as well. She is one naked little chick! No bow tie. You should hop on over to the NN thread and show her off. Not often we see NNs without a bow tie.

Reina..thanks for sharing your pics..cute poultry

Sally..It looks like my silkie chick.cute.new and unsexable..lol I am no  good at guessing some colors..it could be a partridge or a grey..to early to tell. it is not white, black or buff. Hows that for help?

lol. That's just what I was thinking. I'm hoping it's a girl but her name will be Thor either way. I was hoping for any color but gray or blue as Cecila will look the same. Like my children, I'll love them anyway.

Delisha - thanks for the tip on the feed! I will start doing that.I did rig something up where they couldn't really get into it so the chicks haven't really been getting wet - I had washed her this time because she somehow managed to drop a foot in and had it all dried up on her.

Aoxa - I will have to go check out that NN thread. This is my first time with Naked Necks. I have one - I think I'm going to name Squeaky, after the "squeaky wheel", and my daughter picked out one for herself and named it Tango.

I also got a Blue Cochin for the first time... have discovered that she has split wing but she sure is a sweetie.

We decided to have a little fun too! These are just the first 4 that are now almost a week old.

Beautiful dream chicks del and BDM. So nice! Welcome to the new folks posting. ...and O.M.G.! The postal lady just hand delivered my Ron Fogle HRIR eggs right to my front door a half hour ago! They are now safely in the incubator. I'm so over the moon! Eggs from my two favortie breeders in two different incubators and Johnny eggs under the broody. So happy happy happy.
Where did you get your HRIR's?

They should look like this soon.

I'm on my phone or I'd post a drooling emoji!! Those are gorgeous and I covet your foley BLW!! I really REALLY wanted one of those and there is a breeder in San Diego who has some really nice ones but alas chicken math had already gotten the best of me :( I am also obsessed with the imported English orpingtons you have .... Some day .... Some day .... Until then I'll just have to live vicariously through you!!! So to the new person from the UK deciding on breeds (sorry can't scroll back for name) the orpingtons!!! :D

I have been blessed..I do have some very special birds..

Thank you everyone for all of your kind words about my birds.
I have my brand new SOP and been busy making future plans. I will be closing my flock after these last chicks arrive. I take my certification class at the end of April and I will finally be done with getting my birds all tested for this year. Than gearing up for the show season. I have a month to condition my blue Orpington. I hope this weather gets rid of some of this snow. That should help.
