The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

It's good to see that almost everyone from the "road less traveled" thread is finding their way here. Thanks for starting it up. I'm also glad that I found it before there were hundreds of pages; much easier to keep up with this way.
I invited Stonykill to come here, too. He has wonderful wisdom and is the absolute GoTo broody guy! Since Spring is coming and many will be brooding chicks naturally, I figured we needed him to get over here! He was the first person I thought to invite, but there must be many others from The Road who don't know we are over here on this 'porch' now.

Thank you RF - and Stoney - if you're reading this, I would sure love your help doing a blog post about broody hens!

I will tell you this: Somewhere I have a recipe that is a couple of hundred years old for ginger cakes...made with rum. They were called Sea Cakes if I remember right. They were used on board ship for sea sickeness. The Rum helped them keep them "fresh" for a long voyage. I did make some (like cookies) for my in-laws one time, many years ago, before they went sailing, my m-i-l used to get sea sick so easy. She swore they worked. I do know that anything with ginger in it does settle the stomach. I've used it. How that translates to chickens, not sure. But I would think it might be a digestive thing.
I drank ginger ale during pregnancy; it was the only thing that worked!

Hey - for those of you dealing with frozen waterers - this is a really neat and cheap idea to create a heater to keep waterers free of ice.

(And yeah - I don't mind directing people to other blogs when the ideas are good! LOL!)

Stony says contact him by PM. He is honored to do a broody blog!!!
He says it will have to wait til after Christmas.
I can't wait to read it! (although we were joking about how short it will be- "let them be". He had to beat that into my thick, meddling skull a few dozen times!)

I'd like to talk about the Ginger Beer, from the Road thread. I don't want to make any, but am interested in the benefits of ginger. Think we could just shred some into the FF?

I tried to research Ginger Beer when I first read it from the Road thread. I found that there are many benefits from ginger itself. Mostly parasite. One said that grating the root had the most benefit. It was very interesting. All I did was google ginger and worms. :D
