The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

BDM...I know the forum is about chickens but I vote to put this recipe on too!
I have only been using that since October. It has worked 100% on 4 dogs and to many cats to keep track of so far though. The blood hound would always have yeast infection. Put this in her ears and have had no problems since. The lab and the shiatsu had it because of her I think. Also used on one of the neighbors dogs. The cats had ear mites. They are gone now. Just used a little bit in the cat small ears. I also put some on the cats tails vet told me once to do that because the mites would crawl out on the tail to escape death and then go back in when all was clear.
This is about chickens you have to keep your dog healthy to guard the birds. LOL.
I use to go to the vet and get some stuff that took forever to work. This worked in just three doses 1st one then 2nd dose 2 days after 3rd one 3 days after that. Actually 2 doses they stopped shaking there head (also common in yeast infection) the third one just to make sure.

They are good people, they just don't spend time with the chickens like I do with mine. I will do what I can for them without stepping on toes.

I know. I tried to put myself in your shoes, but I just can't leave suffering animals alone. I might say, "I noticed that some of the chickens have legs that look like something I was just reading about. I tried what they recommended and see if that helps, that way I'll k now if it happens to mine" or something like that. I wouldn't tell them everything or all that I did. But some things would be obvious. I can offend my neighbors by not answering my phone fast enough. Wonderful people, but just different than myself. Anything I ever post is just my opinion. Never any judgments against what other people would do. You know your neighbors and have to do what you feel comfortable with. It's another one of those tough ones. Good luck. Sue

This ain't non of my concern but I will say what I would do. Take some nu-stock over and put on legs. three days later I would do it again. At that same time I would clean the coop and white wash it.
White wash (My recipe)
In a five gallon bucket
1 gallon barn lime
!/2 box mule team borax.
Hot water till it is thin enough to paint with.
2 cups salt dissolved in hot water.
Stir every thing together
Let set over night for at least 12 hours
Stir again add more water if it needs it to paint with.
Put on old, old cloths and a pair of safety goggles not glasses.
Take a 6 inch paint or dry wall brush slop the white wash on with a painting motion, Get it everywhere roost in the cracks all over the walls. No need to be neat you will see why after it dries. Reapply litter same kind they had before.
You have done killed every creepy crawly critter in there. That's why out buildings were white washed not for looks.
PG, this is fabulous
Bulldogma, could this recipe go into the blog?
I can't do this til spring, but you can bet as soon as it is warm enough, I'll be whitewashing the interior of my coop

That's ok it worked for me.for 42 years.
Thank you for letting me use this on the blog!

Aoxa I just love that barn scene but only to look at lol, I couldn't take all that Ice in some of those pictures

A lot of people who have chickens also have a dog to protect them. (Mine would eat them). So it can be chicken related!

Got our first egg ever today from one of my daughter's Christmas Silkies.

My daughter is so excited - - of course she wants to either hatch it or keep it "forever!" LOL! While I don't think we'll try to hatch it as the hen hasn't been with a roo for almost 2 weeks, it did get me to wondering how long hens will lay fertile eggs after being separated from a roo??

Anyone have good insight on this?

Aww congrats. seems I heard 2-3 weeks with being fertile but don't quote me on that one.

Good 12 hour soak for chicken/duck/goose/turkey brine.
5 gallons ice water 1 1/2 cups kosher salt.
If it is a small batch I have also tossed in lemons for lemon chicken later, or sage, or even rosemary sprigs.
