I had thought of that myself, and had planned on keeping them separate. I always kept my hatchery chicks apart until they stopped peeping, before they were intermixed, but they grew up and saw each other daily, but just had fencing to keep them apart. I will do that with these as well, another concern was if the chicks could handle the ramp. It's a fairly long one, maybe 4 ft long, and it's up about 3 ft from the ground. I would hate for one of them to fall off it, and hurt themselves with a permanent injury.

I would think they will learn by watching mom, chicks are pretty tough and as long as there isn't concrete under the ramp they should do fine. My ramps aren't that long but they are about 3' off the ground by the time they get to the door entrance and i haven't ever had a chick injured. most of the time it's them learning to follow mama and their siblings inside, once they get that down everything else is a breeze.

Question for you APA SOP owners... Does the book have photos of each breed?

I have the Bantam Standard and SOP from 1993 and yes. Each breed does have photos. I'm not sure if the current standard matches the 1993 standard. edit that to paintings and drawings. The photos depicted are of feathers and disqualifications things.

Earlier i was asked to post pictures of my coops and hospital. I lost my memory card and did not have pictures of the old coop or interior hospital. I did not dust the hospital. It has not been used in years and the pictures will reflect that.

Delisha - what a great setup to have!! I'm jealous, and if I lived near you, I'd bundle up in tons of warm clothing and waddle over there (like the Michelin Man) and dust your hospital for you! Great to have it and not need it as opposed to needing it and not having it! Thank you for sharing!

You know - I was going to start asking the folks who show or have showed chickens to write up some blog posts on conformation. We could break it down to having folks write about a specific part of conformation - such as tails (angle, feathering, carriage and whatnot...) Anyone interested??

I'm on it! Let me get my thoughts, books, and periodicals together. I have a LOT of information from wayyyy back to go through. I have so many piles of stuff it's almost embarrassing. Almost...Hah!

I'd love to talk about some general disqualifications on every breed like split wing and squirrel tail as well as wry tail.

Oooo even crooked beak. Yeah.. All of those are genetic traits to. Not something you want passed down!
