The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Thanks. So, I should research the two and figure out which works best for me.
You know there are some things I can just spend money on without even thinking....shoes...but something like this could take me months to decide. Dang.
I've been told that the Octagon leaves little room for movement when they hatch. I like all the room the Genesis provides during lockdown. I feel comfortable leaving them in there for 24-48 hours after hatch if need be. I don't see a lot of head space in the Octagon.

Both run around the same price. My turner + incubator came to $230 shipping and duties included. It would be less for you as you live in the US, and customs ran me $30 more.

Thanks Aoxa, that's what I was thinking. Always good to get it a little bigger, then smaller.
Ok guys, wish me luck! I'm going for the eighth and final attempt at my crowns today...they better be right. Two years of braces was fine. But a year to get two crowns...I kind of hate my dentists face right now.:D
Have a good day, and try not to post too much!

Hi, I am new to BYC and have been reading and trying to catch up on this thread! I've been loving it, and everyone is so knowledgable. I am so happy to be able to read all the great advice from everyone so experienced.
I hope this is not bad manners, (please tell me if it is), but I really wanted some of your advice about one of my chicks. I posted a thread with pictures and explanation here. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/738358/five-week-mystery-chick-slow-development#post_10321595. Please if you have a minute, will you go there and read it and tell me what you think of the chick and if there is anything else I can do for it. Thank you so much! I am just worried about my little one!
Your chick is fine. Looks healthy, you are doing a great job.

Since you have no idea of the breed.... it might even be to large. Dont borrrow stress and worry. You are doing every thing right.

congrats..
How old are they?
My oldest are 8 months in there. The other two older hens are finishing up a molt (so it's not them) and the last older hen is brooding, so it is definitely a pullet starting up. Not sure who they belong to. I installed 2 nesting boxes.

I have some younger girls in there as well at 7 months, and a few at 5.

I was asking about age since all the stuff I read points to silkies laying pretty late. I also did a huge read on combs wattles and health issues with them.
Where did you read up on these things?

They do not do well with other breeds and are prone to be picked on if they can't see well, but if you have silkies separate, they aren't any less healthy than any other breed.
