The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

My husband built me a Terrier proof brooder box and bought me 5 new babies: 3 Silver Laced Wyandottes and 2 White Amerucanas! They are cracking me up, they are so funny! They are good medicine :)

Bless your hubby!!!

Very nicely done and good to see you get going again!

I am jumping ahead (page 712 and the last is page 722) so I can post these photos before I leave for my doctor's appt. Then I'll get caught up on reading!

Congrats Mumsy on the chicks! Whoo! And your grandson is ADORABLE!!!

So cute! They are indeed good medicine. After all the butchering we had to do yesterday, I can't wait until I get some new babies to ease the pain.

I do not feed young chicks any thing but developer for two weeks, I put them on the ground as soon as I can and they get grasses and what mom would show them what to eat.

So, at 2 weeks you'd recommend I get a clump of our grass/dirt and put out some grit, right? Do I clip the grass so it's smaller? For some reason (even though it's been cold!) our grass is still greenish here! Thanks!

(where is the thank you happy smiley man?)

I have the most terrible news I can ever imagine typing here...

My barn..

My birds.

My Clementine.

All gone...

The barn caught fire and nothing is left. I don't even know.. I don't know what to say. My heart is broken.

I am so very, very sorry to hear this!
