The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Depending on your electric company / coop the instant heaters can cost more than their labels suggest. My coop has announced that they are looking for ways to charge not only by what month you use the electricity in and the time of day it was used, but now they are wanting to charge more for instant high usage. Their main example was the tiny water heaters that only heat water as it is needed. Some how the tiny heaters suck up lots of energy at one time and none most of the time. Supposedly that sudden usage costs more than the gradual usage. I'm not buying it. I guess I think it a wise idea to contact your electrical supplier and see what they have planned for the instant water heaters.
Over all I like the idea of saving space and not running out of hot water.

You are correct it does not cost more to have instant water heaters quite the contrary. My husband is a plumbing contractor and that is all we have in our home. My 2 cents

Exactly my thoughts. They have to remove the existing foundation. It's all cracked and crazy. Did I mention we had propane tanks explode?

Yeah.. that was scary. Fire marshall said never to store your propane tanks in a building of any kind. Store them outside. So any of you storing your BBQ in your garage, please move them.
Not sure I would store a tractor with electrical equipment. Just my feeling. Looks like everything is starting to come together for your family. Congrats

BTW..... seeds are not the proof of fruit. Coconuts have no seeds nor do bananananananas, but Cucumbers do.....

actually REAL bananas do have seeds -- the ones made for us to eat have had the seeds bred out of them, Bananas with seeds are considered inedible. - Navel oranges - also have no seeds due to the wonder of horticultural science. . Cucumbers are the botanical fruit of the cucumber vine, but we refer to them as vegetables because they aren't sweet - beans & peas are also the botanical fruit of those vines, but we also consider them veggies too. squash too. -- hey I went down this road with my brother for DECADES - no kidding -

o & a coconut IS the seed - kind of a nut - not sure botanically if it is classified as a real nut - but seems like it should be. Then you have yews -- they have a fleshy covering over their seed - fruit is edible, seed is considered toxic. - also gingko trees have a fleshy fruit. Horticulturally - they only sell male gingko's as the female fruit drops on sidewalks & is very messy & smelly apparently.

sorry - not meaning to be nit picky - just being a botanist ed-u-ma-ca-tor - can't resist.... apologies for off-topic - I'll stop now - maybe-

LW your posts are funny - hope you can find a good home for that mis-behaving puppy -- that or make an appeal to cesar milan! You obviously have a big heart!

Aoxa -
Where do the goats and sheep go?

I apologies for giving wrong information about roosts measurements. I should have said circumference and used a tape measure instead of posting just a picture. Thank you for correcting me and letting me know I was wrong.
Ah...I was wondering it it was circumference or diameter. I was going to ask but that cleared it up. I was looking more at your hand and how it spanned so that visual was extremely helpful to see. Took out the guesswork.

Leah's mom - you asked for pictures of my deck railing roost. Here's one picture. I have a smaller 2x4 roost in front (occupied in this photo), and the deck railing is in the back. The smaller roost gives them room to spread out or a step up if they all feel like jamming in on the back roost.

Thanks for the photos! And I see that you use stumps too. They are so handy if you have them!

I come from a family that always means what we say but doesn't always say what we mean. I knew what you were saying! Sue
