The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Are these bantam? Where do they come from? Are they in Canada or US? They look like a painting!
My exact thoughts too about the painting!

They are from the UK believe it or not. They have had a lot of work put into them. They are bantams. The Barnevelders lay quite dark eggs as well. They are often speckled. I would love to have some, but they are very uncommon.

Hmmmm, del.......Iooks like we posted at the same time!!!!! Sounds like 5 quarts will last a long time at that rate

Im a little scared to tell my DH..He does not know about the Orpingtons..I think I am not going to until they arrive. Maybe he will not notice. The sales will be great this year at the fair.
lol. How's that working for you? Ever since my DH retired, I can't get away with anything.

AOXA - If you don't raise chicks in the house, where do you normally raise them? (Can't wait for your e book)

I posted these updated pictures of my bantam RIR pullets on the Heritage thread. Got so busy with an under the weather Silkie that I forgot to post them here.

I hatched these girls from eggs I bought on ebay from Lucky Pickens farm in Arkansas. These chicks are the sweetest and gentlest things. I really enjoy them. Got a pm tonight from a BYC breeder offering me advice on where to pick up another breeding pair to mix with them if I'm interested.

Hatched Dec. 12, 2012 in my LG. Ten weeks old. Raised on FF, DL, ACV in water, and garlic, cayenne, and cod liver oil supplement daily. They are gleaming in health. If I can't find a roo, they will be sold. May be looking into a nice bantam RIR roo soon.
Mumsy - your H/RIR pullets look fantastic! Wow! And who ever thought you'd end up short-roo'd... too often it is the other way around. Hope you can find a good one!

I am part of a e-book coming out called Must Love Chickens. I wrote about the entire experience in that. Less than a week before the fire. Going to be bitter sweet to read that again.
Congrats on the eBook! Bittersweet for sure.
