The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Thanks, Leah's Mom. I love these informational "classes". I learn so much easier this way. Is this staph something we have to be careful of? I know my dog had a reaction to fleas, itched like crazy, his coat became infected and they warned me about staph. What a pain that was.

Where do you find pumpkin seeds? I threw in the last 2 smaller squished pumpkins from fall today. They loved it.

my dog is also allergic to fleas it got so bad that ee had to take him to the vet and he had a cortizone shot and a week of antibiotics for a staph infection ... i know alot of dogs these have alot of allergies before this dog i never heard of something like this

Aahhhh! I just came home to find my broody had switched nests :( it's day 19 and she was on them three hours ago. They weren't cold but not toasty warm either. We put her back and she tucked them all back under her. All the chickens were acting like something had upset them. It's about 10 degrees Celsius outside. What should I do? I just got an incubator but have never used one. She has about 15 eggs under there.

Personally, I'd leave her. As long as she's back on the nest. Just watch her. Mine are all nest jumpers. I don't trust them. She only has a couple more days. Keep us posted.

she probably just got up to do some stuff and got distracted its ok if she stays off for a bit dont candle unless u have to if any wrre bad she would have rolled them out and since they r not supposr to be turned after day 18

Leave them and her... I wouldn't candle.... It was only 3 hours .... Just keep an eye on her and the nest ;) The cold might just delay the hatch a few hours!!! I had some hatch that were left for over 14 before I found them!!!

Good luck keep us posted!

Well I don't think she will move now that it's dark but I'll have to go to work tomorrow so she will have all day to abandon ship. Should I candle a few?
One more thing ... Since you have to goto work tomorrow is there anyway that you can make or put some sort of fence around her??? To keep her in and other hens out??? I have a feeling she won't move again .... they know if the eggs are alive .... so trust your broody ... even if she gets easily confused
