The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

If my dog gets loose and you shoot him without letting owner have a chance to correct problem you can be sued . If dog comes and kills then you have right to shot it. If you kill because it comes on your property . I could have lots of cows never have to buy meat again !

You can get sued for anything now a days. I don't know that you are completely correct though. I mean if I see a large dog on my property approaching a child, I'm pretty sure I can shoot it without warning. Same thing applies to livestock.

I am not trying to create an argument but question the validity of this statement. True, you can be sued for anything, but prevailing is a different story.
1st, most landowners, after shooting the dog, will dispose of it to not draw unwanted attention. Not me, as I am likely to drop it on your porch if I do it..... I know, tough talk... I am a softie. 2ndly, if it is on someones property, in farming areas, they have the absolute right to protect their property. All they have to say is that the dog was aggressive or attacked

Sorry, didn't mean to jump on ya all at one time. Seems we were all furiously typing at the same time. I am just slow as I type with 2 fingers and a thumb....

This may be true where you live - I can only tell you that the law protects me and my livestock in my state... No warnings necessary. Dog owners know this (or should) and livestock owners certainly know it. No "you kill it you bought it" here... They never get a chance to kill. The law states two requirements to permit me to kill dogs... I must perceive they are threatening my livestock and they must be on my property.
I encourage everyone to check the laws in their state.
