The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Where is Stony? I have a question about Pekins...

I have a Pekin mix. Not sure with what, but it is such a pig, and is SO big I can't even believe it. I'm wondering if this is normal for Pekins.

This duckling is 1 week old. The chicks behind it are standard birds and are 2 weeks.

I have raised only Khaki Campbells, Calls and one Muscovy. This duckling is 3/4 the size of a full grown call.

Unfortunately it was the only one out of two eggs that hatched, so it lives with the chicks.. which I am regretting already..

Oh and my goslings were the same size at 1 week!

Is it a standard Pekin mix or Jumbo Pekin mix? - my Jumbo was HUGE (quickly surpassed the Rouens and other standard Pekin) and still is! I am dealing with bumblefoot on her right now, poor baby. She's is almost too much for me to pick up and handle - like a goose! None of my chickens or other ducks have it, so I am wondering if it has to do with her size to some degree. I am trying that koi med as soon as it comes in and if it doesn't improve soon, surgery it is.

Very likely a jumbo Pekin mix. Very large..

In another week I probably won't be able to keep her/him with the silkies any longer. Injuries would be bound to happen.. Though I kept my geese with the silkies and all the other chicks for 3 weeks and than moved the geese to pasture exclusively.

But I don't have another duck with her.. So that's going to be tough!

Sunday is always picture day.. Thankfully the sun did come out so I was able to get some shots.. all on the deck have you (I was tired...) I need to stop encouraging them.. They keep pooping on our furniture!

Cletus - I can crow like a BOSS!

He has a beautiful crow...

Lucy. I love this picture.. I think it's the antique wash pot beside her (we found in the garage! It's an old mop bucket!)

Joy

Gertrude. I love her lacing. She is a mutt. Hopefully carries the blue egg gene from her father.

Gertie again

Cletus & Lydia. Lydia is not even 19 weeks and she is really reddening up. I think she is going to be a great layer..

She is beautiful..

totally normal. Pekins grow so fast I'd swear as you stare at them they grow.

I could & did sit for a couple hours to watch Edie & the tiny's. I've never had chicks so small. Fun to watch them run around outside, flap their wings, eat, then flop down & take a nap to just do it all over again. They all have nice full crops & boy can they eat! Didn't take to the liver so tomorrow I think I will mix it in with the FF which they love!!

Edie is a bully with the little ones. No injuries just pecks them if they walk by her or she doesn't want them by the food. But she does let them eat so I am hoping she grows to like them. One of the BCM tried to eat a really big dandelion then walked around with it sticking out of her beak. I finally had to grab it and pull it out. It was like 4 inches long! Ugh they need to learn to chew their greens :/ they are still out & about. It is quite comical when one of the tiny's gets separated from the others.......she just starts crying really loud till she figures out where they are. Which is usually in the run lol

I couldn't resist a few more pics........

BR taking a nap after playing. She is the smallest.

Edie being a brat. She figured out if she roosted in the pop door the tiny's couldn't get in

Edie decided the empty food bowl was a great place to take a bath
