The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Does anyone have a recipe for a broiler feed you would like to share? Preferably no corn or soy (due to lack of nom-gmo sources). Thanks

Lynn , I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I hope animal control catches that dog.

I have a broody EE. She's been sitting for two days. I'm going to give her a few days before I break her. The last thing I need is more chicks! She's my favorite EE too. So sweet and always chatting. Maybe next year.

I am soo frustrated. Once again, I have the day off and it is pouring rain. I mean buckets and lightening. I was hoping to let the chicks try out their new outdoor pen - can you believe 5 weeks old and never been outside yet? They need to be outside so badly. A sod plug lasts about an hour, and then it is stripped of anything green and half the dirt is eaten too.

Every sunny day has been a working day, and by the time I get home from work in the cities it is 6:30.

Since taking them out means first catching the little ones ....and stowing them in a crate til everyone is caught, and then hauling the carrier to the outdoor pen, and then catching them again and repeating the process to return them to the coop - can't fit it in after work. After a week or two, I know they will put themselves in the crate at night so it will be easy to move them back to the coop, but for now...dang.

so much rain the rivers are too high to kayak, current too strong. half my garden isn't planted yet because it is too wet.
well, I guess I get to spend time sitting in the coop with the babies anyway!.

Lalaland, please send the rain to Texas!!! It was 105 degrees yesterday. Our ground is so dry that I think you can see China through the cracks!!

If it's any consolation I live in the desert foothills. Was 110 yesterday and the last half inch of rain I got was on April 4. My ground is bone dry ten or twelve feet or more down.

I don't know how you can handle that kind of heat!  guess I better stop complaining - wishing rain clouds your way.

X2 wishing the rain to all of you that need it. Hasn't really stopped raining here in over a week. Yard is a swamp chicken run is a lake. I tried digging ditches to get the water out of the run but there is nowhere for it to go. There is rain in the forecast everyday until Friday next week.
