The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

It is all over the web and in documented cases. I read for weeks. I did not trust just one or ten opinions. I read the findings at Universities and health clinics. If you simply ask for side effects of Corid there are over 4 million studies and opinions listed.
Chickens have not been studied enough. Most of the documented cases were with other animals and humans in India that I read.

That is for overdose, but I was wondering about general side effects of normal dose. I do know that you are supposed to give Vitamins A and K following amprollium. Luckily I haven't had this problem, but this seems to be the time of year for this. Here in the US we are getting so much more rain this summer than I can ever remember--ripe conditions for coccidia.

What about the side effects for birds that didn't have cocci and you gave them amprollium in the amount you would give to treat a cocci overload (and not just medicated feed).

Del you have given her thiamine supplements?

Quote: No, just eggs, meat and electrolytes.
That is why i said i poisoned them. They probably did not have cocci and i gave them liver damage and thiamine deficiency. I have tried to get her to eat foods high in thiamine, but she is not interested. She picks at eggs, but eats a little bit. If I take her away and try to treat she refuses all foods. I have given her baby vit with out iron a few time. i am afraid to do that too.

My electrolytes contains thiamine:

Delisha - any chance it is parasites that have taken advantage of her weakened state?
anything is possible...it is not mites or lice..possibly worms. She is pretty young though. Only 6 weeks old so worm infestation does not seem likely. I think it is probably liver issues.

Yes my electrolytes does have some in. I made sesame seeds and herbs with eggs to give her/all for breakfast tomorrow. She will not eat spinach, so I chopped them fine in the blender and added them too.

I may have missed this with being gone a lot lately, but can I get specifics on the electrolytes???

Do you just use Gatorade? Is that good for them, cuz I don't even drink those that often due to the dyes, etc?

Is there an electrolyte drink I don't know about maybe?

When you do give them electrolytes....
How often? How much? Do you also give water or just the electrolyte drink?

It is given in the water. It is good for all types of stress, including heat. I put new chicks on it too. I use it in all my water stations in heat over 85-90.
I do not add ACV in waterers at this time and add it on top of feed every couple of days.

1 cup of pedialyte unflavored
1/2 teaspoon salt substitute
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon table salt
1 tablespoon sugar
add to 1 gallon water
