The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

ok well, an update on my bantam blrw girl... gave her feed soaked overnight, and she went NUTS for it! makes me wonder if she's only had soaked/fermented feed before. she didn't seem to know what to do with the crumbles/pellets/grains I gave her for the most part.

having the chick in with her is definitely making her more active. tho her gimp is still present today, it's not any worse.

time will tell I guess.

she has some minor issues for a bantam blrw (too orangey for one) but on the flip side, she's also my ONLY bantam blrw girl at the moment... so i'll work with what I've got and improve as I can.

Here are the ingredients for the Ropapharm

Emulsifier (E484), propylene glycol, water, oregano, cinnamon, pepper, nicotinamide, pantothenic acid, milk thistle, artichoke, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, thyme oil.
Vitamin A E 672 2000000 I.U.
Vitamin B1 600 mg
Vitamin B12 4000 mcg
Vitamin B6 800 mg
Vitamin D3 300000 I.U.
Vitamin E 8000 mg

With the exception of the emulsifier and the propylene glycol, it looks like items that some of the folks on this thread already use with their chickens.

Not sure why they are using propylene glycol in there.

Hawk was here all day moving from tree to tree. Girls were out early looking like statues. As soon as I came out with chicken for them they came to me to take it in the coop. They spent all day in coop (their choice) but I could hear & see hawk in surrounding trees. I bought some silver and red plastic glittery globes I am going to hang with fishing line Sunday all over their run area to see of it deters the hawk. Found a ghost that floats as the wind blows and put near coop door hanging on a shepards hook. Fed them early. I don't figure they will venture out anymore today. Plus they didn't seem impressed with the hail storm :)

Completed my insulated ff box. Need to do a couple minor things to finish it up but have to wait for foam to dry.

Hers a pre view ..... Need to get a couple thermometers to put one inside & one outside to see what the temp difference is.

I will post more pics when it's completed.

Very pretty little girl!

They carry it at mypetchicken.com ... I bought some to try it out. Only had it a few weeks.... so too soon to tell if it has had any affect.

I have been using it for 2 days and already I can see a difference in my girls. They appear much happier, more active, eating and drinking well. They also get garlic in their FF and I am hoping that those that are moulting will be helped by all these extra vitamins etc.

I have read on a few forums that the different types of oregano and the fact that it is in oil form is better than just feeding fresh oregano but the jury is out on that as I don't know if that is true or not. I cannot find any fresh oregano and only have dried herbs, I am sure this product must be better than what I could offer them without it.

I'm thankful to hear other people are realistic. My chix are my friends and I will do whatever it takes to keep them happy but they are just chickens. They are spoiled and it kills my husband when I come home from the grocery store with treats for them - not to mention giving them leftovers from my own plate.
