The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I'm not worried about their salad course....it's mine I'm concerned about. ;-)
I eat a huge salad for lunch every day I work and spinach is the bulk of it.

Oh, that's less funny!!! Sorry.
Yeah, I do that when the weather is warm, but I can't bring myself to eat cold salad after October. (What a wimp!!! lol)
Spinach is good!! I get a different green or mix every week or every other week.

I'm being paged. lol

Unless I am mistaken about animals in general or unless this does not apply to chickens, I would say that you not worrying about him attacking you probably has a lot to do with him not even attempting it. I'm sure you're doing a good job of showing him who's boss, but if you walk out there with an I sure hope he doesn't attack my legs today attitude, I would think he'd be more likely to attack, right?
in the years working with animals, there's one thing I tell people who are new to them... pretend they're psychic... if you are convinced an animal is going to do something, he usually does. it really has nothing to do with psychic-ness or anything, but your body language that you are projecting while you are thinking about the horrible things that will happen.

my father is convinced all horses bite. my mare Maggie had NEVER bitten anyone, accidentally or on purpose, but my father standing there saying horses bite, she walked up to the fence and bit his hand. that further proved his point that all horses bite. (but only him apparently).

it's the same with most animals. your body language tells what you are thinking. if you CONVINCE yourself that *THIS* will happen, the animal will see that in you and respond to what your body is telling them.

I think the only animal I've never really seen that apply to are cats, and that's just because they don't care WHAT you think. or even if you DO think. hehe

All our shoveling, plowing, etc. is totally covered over. Wind has now picked up and a lot of drifting. State of emergency declared...wonder if that will keep my husband from going to work tomorrow?

Sometimes guys can be really ... what's the word? (Maybe I shouldn't say it in polite company if I can figure out what it is...)

My Dh does not want to call in for tomorrow either. Cars are not to be on the roads but he is all I'll make it. Sure and how many other cars will be out there to get tickets for driving on no driving days. I know there must be a family friendly word. Found something close, madness in its true meaning comes close to what I want to say but it is a touch extreme.

Ah yes it should be here starting tomorrow.....well the winds and cold first then the snow.

I sure wish I could stay home when there are driving bans and states of emergencies..........that's the only downfall of working for emergency services

. (And they would come pick me up if I said I couldn't make it in lol)

I get dragged to work when I don't want to go too. lol
(I'm a SAHM; we're the emergency services front line. lol)

Very true but we get extra chicken watching time in the good weather.

I'm a SAHM too, and right now the emergency at our house is high fevers and strep throat! The weekend after Christmas it was the stomach bug! Not fun!

I completely disagree with you. My cats very much care about what I think. They care that I consider it my place in the scheme of things to yield the power of the opposable thumb to do their bidding at all times.

:lau   Ours stare us into obedience ...

I have 4 cats. They all have unique personalities. Fire will yell and bat you if you ignore him when he is telling you the cat food feeder is empty lol
