The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I don't think so--- I will go back and look it up..... I think it would be wonderful for the garden situation....gives you a little more control over where they go....

I will need to keep them out of mine right after I plant (until everything is established) and maybe some during harvest--

That is awesome that you won Lisa's book! It is an awesome book! I've never won anything online but I haven't signed up to win anything yet-- I hope I do someday-- that is a nice surprise! Those are the only "chicken" books I have but....Oh....My, don't get me started on all my other books-- novels, non-fiction, college books I've held on to.... and KID'S BOOKS-- my 5 year old told his teacher that his mom "hoards books" -- they couldn't believe he knew what that meant and that he said it....it's crazy.
I have Lisa Steele's book too (if that is the one you are talking about - this thread is hard to keep up with!). I love the book. I just won 4 of Ashley English's books, one is on chicken keeping. I haven't read much of it, but so far so good.

I got a Kindle for my book obsession. I do like a real book, but you can't beat how many you can take with you on a KIndle. :)

Yesterday we processed 9 roosters in the snow. Anyway, when we eviscerated one we were never able to find his heart. We did find 3 little pieces of tissue that resembled organ tissue but they were only about the size of a nickel combined. It was so bizarre! This was my first time processing but I am very familiar with anatomy and I am not sure what was going on! Any idea? And unfortunately I didn't get any pictures.

Funny I processed my boys on Saturday too. Sooo different from a meatie, seemed to me that all the organs were smaller. Eating them will be the real test as to whether I will grow out Ameraucana boys in the future. I'm interested to see how differently the Chanteclers will dress out.

Yes! that is who we were talking about-- this thread does move fast in 100 different directions! I have yet to jump on the "kindle" train or other electronic devices for books! Sometimes I think about it--- just really love a real book! I am sure when I do take the plunge-- I will wonder why I didn't do it sooner!!!!

And you can post to the BYC on it....
that would be a bonus.... When we go camping I take books....but I never even touch them! With 3 boys 5 and under, I don't have a prayer to crack a book. When the kids are older--- I can see a kindle or similar device being AMAZING to take a zillion things with you and sit around the fire in the evening and read..... (oh....I can imagine.... what a dream....)
