Mine isn't quite as pickle smelling as I would like because of the fish meal. It bubbles and looks amazing, so I know it's ok.

I found this gem at a barn sale yesterday. Cost me a whopping $1 I love old stuff & this will make weighing grains out soooo much easier

Eta I also found this porcelain cup ( um ok not really a cup) & it caught my eye as well. I know what it was used to be a long time ago but it will be perfect for taking the girls food out in. And LM its not plastic

I don't think I would use that for food items. It was probably lead-glazed.

@Leahs Mom thanks for the link. I'm only using it to transport food from inside the house to the outside feed bowl. Then I bring it back in & rinse it out. I wouldn't think it would leach much from such little time in it. Yes it does have a few rust spots but I would think I would have to leave it in there for awhile to cause a problem.

I haven't been on here for a while-too busy but also I suddenly quit getting BYC subscription email after April 30th. I contacted the administrators-they said nothing seemed wrong. I even unsubscribed & resubscribed-still nothing is showing up in my email. Its not in the spam folder either. My main reason for coming on is: one of my hens is suddenly crying nonstop, a ca ca sound with a sort of sneeze sound every few "ca ca's". I felt her crop & underneath & she is eating but something is definitely wrong. Any ideas? (on both my problems)

nice score! funny, because my partner Sue stopped at a garage sale and told me she found an enamel pot. SHe brought me one just like yours - didn't know it was a chamber pot. It is handy, isn't it?
Now I will go read leah's link....dang it. I know I'm not going to be happy about what I read (I do appreciate the info though)!

I don't have any ideas, but do you think she is in pain? and crying out? never heard of a hen doing that but non-stop isn't normal. I take it eyes, crop, feet, skin, poop, etc is all normal? have you felt her body all over for lumps/growths? and how is her breathing - rapid, shallow, ?

It doesn't sound good. I'm sorry!

Lala I love great finds like these. I don't think the few minutes it's in there is going to have adverse problems. But I do know that the baking pan I got with a chip in it at a garage sale won't be used for baking anymore

ETA maybe it being used as a chamber pot nullified the bad stuff in it lol
