The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I first got hooked on Doctor Who back in the old public TV days. It was on the free public station every Sat night. This past Nov. was the 50 year anniversary of Doctor Who.

Good to know about the sunflower seeds. I found a stash I'd bought for winter feeding wild birds. So treat time tonight. Always easier to herd them in the coop if there's something nifty in there. Otherwise they run in, and while you're chasing the outlier, run right back out again!

I remember watching Doctor Who when I was a kid. It seemed a bit corny to me sometimes: Exterminate! Exterminate! But it was my favourite sci fi until Star Trek came along. Then my son introduced me to the brand new Doctor Who about ten years ago. Wow!!!!! Brilliant Doctors, love interests, aliens, villains, cinematography, philosophy, history, so imaginative and moving. And a Tardis!

I had never heard of a Tardis coop...I better check out the story behind it!

ETA:  I'm not a big TV watcher... so I'm probably the only person in the US who doesn't know the story  :p

No, you are def not the only one. I haven't ck'd it out yet but I have no idea what so ever.

Did you know that the largest retailer of Dr. Who stuff in the US is here in Indianapolis?

My wife and I are Whovians. We've mostly only seen the new seasons, but we're starting to try to go back through some of the older ones. It's hard because a lot of them are not on Netflix, and the ones that are there are not arranged in any particular order.

Tardis coop got vetoed here. I love that episode. I also want to know why the Doctor owes Casanova a chicken.
Yeah - hubbie not on board with the Tardis coop (YET!). But seriously our 13 yo son would work harder on it than anything else! The biggest issue right now is that it would not be big enough for an expanding flock.

here are a couple links with pictures of a Tardis Coop:

Re Doctor Who:
There are a few sites that have the series streamed. Dunno the legality of them, but that's how I watched the first two Doctors.

this one is down for the moment but is scheduled to be back up in a week: http://doctorwhomedia.co.uk/ - has episodes that you choose to watch h

this one http://tardisblue.net/index.php has live streaming and a schedule of when the episodes are streamed.

I should have named my girls after the recent companions. Oh well, maybe next batch.

I am soooo envious!!!!! Way to small for my flock, but maybe as a broody house, or if I end up w/ a small quad of naked birds. Wheels are turning!!!!
Yeah - see we need a small interim coop to hold us through till the big one is built so I am thinking this would work! We have a friend whose son built a tardis for his sisters wedding. They entered the reception hall thru it. I don't suppose I would be able to convince him to sell it to us to make into a chicken coop though.

Did an interview on the "Urban Chicken Podcast" on fermented feed along with Leigh. The interview is LONG... about an hour and 20 minutes.... but you can pause it and listen at leisure. It's here if anyone is interested ...scroll way down to the bottom of the page for the show audio: http://www.urbanchickenpodcast.com/ucp-episode-048/

It covers some of the basics of different kinds of fermenting, why lacto-fermenting is healthy, how to do it, etc.

Nope your not. I didn't have a clue either until I looked at the link. I don't have cable or satellite so I don't get many channels lol
Thanks for the info. I will have to think on that. I'm trying to make something simple for my friend when he watches them. Might just be simpler to get a small bag of all flock or grower with higher protein. Or even a bag of chick feed.

We don't have cable or satellite either, but we have internet and the Library so we often watch Dr. Who online and seem to always have DVD's checked out of the library! My son has converted me into a Dr. Who fan.
