The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

12 F. here this morning with a huge amount of snow.

I heard on the radio that the "normal" average temp at this time of year is in the 40s. I also heard that it's supposed to be in the 50s and raining on Saturday. I hope they're right.

11F and windy this morning. My FF froze last week so I am back to dry.

Yesterday my girls came out first thing in the morning, but they went back into the coop at lunch time and did not come back out. So cold this morning even the heated waterer can't keep the water from freezing. But the girls still came out when I opened the pop door. The good news is I got my first layer about a week ago and she has been giving me 2 eggs every 3 days. Silver lining!

33* here at 1:30 pm. Just finished painting in the new coop, little heater going, but will not keep temp up enough to cure the paint. So, yet an other day before I can move them in. My paint is a low odor exterior paint, and i can barely smell it. Any thoughts on how long it needs to cure before it's safe to put the girls in their new coop?
