A week ago i scrambled up 6 dozen eggs for the chickens, I took a picture of the variety I'm currently getting without a fair amount of my hens not laying yet. They are being more lazy this year.


The dark ones are from the blue copper maran.

Marans lay a chocolate dark egg, but rather sparsely. They look nice in a photo paired with a blue egg. They do, however, taste the same.

Only if you want the really dark shell, otherwise as said they do taste the same. So many breeds and choices it can be hard to decide.

Well if they taste the same, then i'll take the dark shell. But does anyone have an idea which flock member I should remove?

Do you know where you are getting your birds from and whether they carry the breeds and if any are available of the breeds? Sometimes just because I want a certain breed for the year doesn't mean I can always find them. So it's possible availability of breeds will help you make up your mind. Otherwise I always say what's one more bird?

Well i live in a pretty urban area, not too much space for the chickens, but if you insist I can add more.

BTW, I am ordering my chicks from McMurrayHatchery sometime after April 1 (when they start selling chicks) all at once.
