The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Another thing I wanted to mention...

I know you give ACV in the water, but I would also have at least one waterer available at all times with just plain water in it. They can choose either, but fresh, plain water is very important, and ACV also has the potential to exacerbate yeast issues under certain circumstances.

I'm sure it's not my FF only because I haven't been giving it regularly. I had ran low and they hadn't had any for about a week previous to them being "off".
They do have access to other water sources and the stinkers use those more than their acv water.

Oh, and their vents look perfectly normal. Just the slight rattle (one is worse. The other I need to listen to again because I'm not even 100% sure she rattled. It was very minimal so could have been her protesting me holding her) and being more tired than usual.

Essential Oil success!

We have had 90 three week old broilers wheezing all week. I put two drops of oregano in their water for four days and no more sneezes! Essential oils for win!

@Eckielady Another thought since you got them from someone else and you may not know, but are you mixing vaccinated chickens with non vaccinated? It's recommended to not mix. Vaccinated birds are overall weaker than non-vaccinated, if the non-vaccinated are taken care of properly. It may be that their problems arise from previous ownership

A thought on the FF also, is that it does not occur in nature so maybe not so good to feed that way.

That one I can't answer. I do not vaccinate but I am not sure if any of the birds are. We are going to start raising our own soon so I'll be able to know for sure but this group I've had for awhile and if I had to guess I would say they were not (didn't seem like the type of people to spend the money) but I'm just not sure.

Oh, and there are other chickens in the group from a few different places so they could definitely be mixed.!
