The neighbours cat.

For quite a year now we have problems with the neighbours cat.
The neighbour his girlfriend came live with him and brought this cat.
We are 99 procent sure that this is their cat.

We proofed our garden so my cat can't get out and annoy neighbours. An no cat get's in. But this cat is somehow an acrobat and mastermind in one. EVERYDAY we have to rescue the ducks for this cat; or think we have to. When young ones we find them backed up in the corner and have to rescue them. Now they chase him away but we are still awakened by the noice and we just hear in their quacks that they are not feeling safe afterwards. We don't sleep well. Sometimes it's 3 times. We hosed this cat with water a LOT. And one day he was stupid enough to go into the empty coop and I'm angry enough to close it. He went all loco. Through the whole cage jumping back and forth (dargnit dude, It is a big poop coop, I just closed the door.. and nothing else...) and managed to wurm himself through 1cm of wire... and stayed away for a week..and then returned.
Again daily.

I am afraid to talk to this neighbour.
I think you should not have a pet and lay the burdons upon others.
But where I live people think 'yeah, but cats need to be free, otherwise it is abuse'. (and your dog then?)
I'm a cat person. But I can't expect other people to be a cat person and find it okay to find cat-poo all over their garden and their fowl get killed...just so MY cat can be free.
I'm afraid that I ask friendly if he can keep his cat out of my yard he will suddenly complain about the quacking of the ducks. (which they don't, unless feeding time that we do diliberattly hours after the hours you can make noise, from 07.00 in the morning it is allowed and we do 09.00. And they are soft quackers for the rest, and he said he never heard them) and the rest of their loud quacks is because of their cat.

The cat's reaction to having the door closed on him, sounds more feral than pet.. are you in a area that you are allowed to have ducks? if you truly believe it's his, I would talk to him, in the mean time, try and secure your animals where the cat can't get to them. About your only other option would be to trap the cat and take him to a shelter.

I'm sure he is not feral. He has a band with an bell and a heart and diamonds. Allways goes or comes from their yard, or from their roof to our roof, and we often heard him yelling about 'whitesocks' and how annoying that cat was. And he has white socks. And he was never here before she moved in with 'whitesocks'.

We have thought about cacthing it and bringing it to a shelter. And act dumb. But that would be kind of evil. But on the other hand; my partner has a shovel now lying at the door to behead that cat. And that is truely evil. But it has come this far. I allways enjoyed cats in my garden, my cat too. But this one.. on the first sight my cat hated him/her.. and I now understand why. I feel in a catch 22. Or no; I'm afraid I will end up in a situation where my ducks are suddenly the culprut and our neighbour acts sour to us for ever. Let alone if my partner or me does something to this cat that can hurt it, we are fined, and have to live with harming an animal that had just bad owners..

We are allowed to have ducks.
Maybe I should start to hold an diary? Just in case he goes about that his cat is so sweet and that the ducks are annoying?
I think he will do this because we had problems with his uncontrolable dog that LITTERALY smashed his head through the fence to attack my cat. Or when we had a dog over. We actually had to run for our lives when it came through. It's not a labrador but a bad-educated fight dog. We asked him to fix the fence, he did... with barbwire. Yeah the dog can't get through anymore...But it is still kind of scary and awkward when you can't sit in your yard with family/friends because that dog keeps staring and barking and gnarling at you so loud that you can't understand each other. How he fixed this; I have low hopes how he fixes the cat problem.

Cats won't harm your Ducks. Leave the Cat alone because it possibly is after the mice that come to eat your feed. I have a Cat and the Cat next door comes here too. They have never been interested in a Chick or a Duckling although hang around my pens and kill mice, birds and Squirrels..

What to do?

Yeah I don’t know, I would talk to the neighbor kindly if could to let know their cat is terrorizing your animals and won’t stay in it’s own yard. Request to keep secure. If keeps coming in your yard just call animal control. I would secure it before calling animal control once in your yard. This is a frustrating problem here to me not my animals. I’m allergic to cats to the point of wheezing and I have neighbors that let theirs run loose. There are leash laws for dogs need some for cats if out. Tom cats also spray their scent and stinks to high heaven. Makes me nauseated. If I see one I scare it off. I haven’t been able to detain one for animal control and not even sure which home they belong to.

Your post reminds me of why I could never again live in a town. I like being able to see my neighbors' houses in the distance, but there is no one close enough to be a bother.

As far as the cat goes, there is one "neighbor's" cat -- the woman lives about a quarter of a mile away -- that regularly visits here. "Mittens," as we call it, loves to frequent my barn and hay shed (plenty of mice to eat there) but has never shown any interest in my row of nine runner ducks that sometimes parades right in front of it. As runners are lightweights and hardly able to fly, it seems that if Mittens wanted duck for dinner, my flock would be gone by now. I worry much more about air assaults from hawks, eagles and owls -- which is why all the poultry is kept on the south side of the property, easily viewed from every window on that side of the house, and securely housed when no one is home.

On the other hand, whenever Mittens sees me come out the door, all I see is a gray and white streak. Last week, Mittens literally took off into the air and hurdled a two-foot duck fence with plenty of room to spare. Your intruder sounds much more annoying. Good luck with finding some resolution to the problem.

What has happened with the dog situation? while barbed wire properly installed would stand a chance of keeping it in his yard, I'd be concerned about it, I've not been in the chicken momma mode to say for sure, but I've read a lot where stress on them will affect laying.. Even house pets go feral after a while, where I am there are several animal rescues, that go out on their own, searching for lost dogs, they'll look for cats,goats and pigs as well, so far we have had a 100 or more dogs found and returned or brought to shelter, they've not found any cats that I am aware of, but there has been a goat and pig returned to their owners.

If the owner doesn't care for the animal enough to keep it in his yard at least, I'd say he doesn't deserve to have one. We're all afraid of having hawks etc attack our chickens and ducks, Hawks consider cats fair game too.

Agree! From what I've seen, cats are intimidated by groups of ducks and chickens.

I grew up on a farm and the Cats never bothered with the Birds.
