The Never Ending Hatching thread! For those of us that hatch all year long!

after a lot of thought i decided to put a fan in my incubator. followed the instructions for where to put it that came with my incubator. But i used a fan that was one of those ones that has two fans in it that are for under a laptop. I never use it so i broke it in half took one fan out and wired it to an old cellphone charger. Then attached it to the incubator and plugged it in. Works perfectly

I have more chickies arriving this morning. The BF & DD went to go get them from the PO. I have to keep my brooders full while waiting on eggs to hatch right

I currently have 3 brooders going & by the time the chicks arriving this morning get put in there will be about 70 babies (give or take a couple) running around them, including 2 quail, 3 poults, 28 broilers, & the rest pullets, rainbow babies & packing peanuts from last weeks's shipment. This is 3 weeks in a row for chick deliveries plus a friend picked up from Meyer's for me twice as well.

Yep, I only bought my fan because i didn't have one... I could have got it for $2 but with shipping, might as well go to best buy.. Since I flipped the fan and put in the baffle to prevent it blowing on the eggs it seems to be holding really well and I have a temperature sensor on the left and on the right sides of the incubator. they normally agree within 1deg F. Tonight is candling so I guess we will find out just how well it really works

well I am disappointed ... I pulled out 4 clears from my white leghorn/ee cross

i have only 3 of those left, of shipped eggs it's not looking good and i can't tell exactly if the embryos are alive in there. Haven't candled the Marans yet, waiting for my light battery to charge.

Anyone have experience using an incubator and a "hatcher". My mom gave me eggs on tuesday, friday, and more to come tomorrow. I paid for shipping on eggs from someone that haven't got here yet as well. So Obviosuly I am going to need to go on lock down several different days. I'm thinking when it gets close to lock down for the first set getting my home made incubator out, get the lightbulb in there and temp right. and humidity up to what i need... then as the eggs get to time for lock down move them over.

Anyone try that before? I just don't know what to do other then that. I figured a lot of eggs would give me a better chance but at the same time now the hatch is to spread out. It was planned to have all eggs in by yesterday.

I have staggered hatches all the time. I have a 600 plus egg incubator and am always adding eggs (daily in fact). I have three styrofoam incubators (various brands) all still air. I have to check the calendar daily to see which eggs need to go to the hatcher. I put the eggs in the "hatcher" and the humidity is always cranked up. Once the chick/poult/keet hatches, I then put it in a styrofoam incubator to fluff. The humidity in this is dry. That is no water is added. After 24 hours, they go in the brooder.

I have anywhere from 1-5 hatchlings a day. This system has worked well for me for the past year and a half.

When one of the hatchers needs cleaned, I load all the eggs in one of the other, clean it, then start loading it with eggs from the incubator when it is their time.

It's large has a lightbulb so where the eggs are put is further from it and the right temp, and they hatch and move close to it to dry off. but that is all i have. Is those two. I also do a lightbulb, and sawdust for their brooder which of course is open air. In the past i have removed chicks before fluffy and put in the brooder right below the light is 102 degrees and then plenty of room to move away from the light to get cooler.

Two of my "hatchers" are farm innovators. Your set up would work just fine. Be sure to check the eggs in the hatcher after a chick has hatched. I have had a few die, because they got rolled and suffocated before I could get to them. Good Luck!
