The Never Ending Hatching thread! For those of us that hatch all year long!

you need some serious help

That's ok, today I'm picking up a pair of adult Tolousse & a trio of juvenile Muscovies & trading 6 chickens for them. We have some FAST pen building to do!!! The project for this morning & to get the round pen on the hill cleared out & repaired & build a goose box. I also have a piglet & 5 Sebbies coming the middle of next week that I'm trading chickens for. I already sold 23 laying hens yesterday along with 700 egg cartons & have 6 more hens going today. I also have a guy coming over to put the deposit on his 500 quail I'm ordering eggs for today & setting next week. I need more brooders & bators too!!!

i am a day late but it sounds like a hygrometer thats off. take batteries out to reset it or compare with a second

Thanks for checking in :)... right now i have no condensation like i usually have. I seriously think it is too much dry air coming in, but i am afraid to stop that because of my last bad hatch where i wondered if they were not getting enough O2 so i compromised and just slowed it down a little bit. I didn't cal the hygrometer part, but it's a combo unit (temp an humidity). I did put both of my temp sensors alongside a thermocouple in the ambient air chamber at work. I was pretty disappointed actually that there was a whole degree range between the three of them. The RH on this test was quit a bit apart but the Vaisala i used for comparison was in a different ambient chamber so that could be the reason. I"ll try the humidity comparison again before next hatch.. (see comparison with the Vaisala unit measuring ambient RH) data and chart below

I hear some peeping coming from the eggs, it's day 21 today so i'm a bit leary of opening now to try and calibrate. but i have never had a hatch that reached day 21 with no pips at all so i am a bit worried (well i worry every time I guess LOL!!).

My thermostat controller didn't arrive yet, but as soon as it does i'm going to try to hatch some of my own (ie: not shipped) eggs with it installed and see if i get an improvement.

all but 2 of my eggs close to lock down blood ringed on me. I also have 5 dozen left out of 6 dozen that are good and due in 2 weeks. Well that havent blood ringed.
To get everything in one incubator i took out the auto turner and figure i'll turn them twice a day by just running my arm over them so they each turn over. It's just easier to deal with one incubator instead of two

What is everyones thoughts... Auto turner verses hand turning.

i would check sanitation. you seem to have a bacteria issue.

are your eggs clean?

did you was or rub them?

do you was your hands before you touch eggs?

turning should be 3 x a day minimum.

I don't wash eggs before putting in the incubator but I don't use eggs with dirt/poop on them either. So yeah they are clean. I don't rub them, and I always wash and dry my hands before touching the eggs.
I do 3 times a day when I can but if i'm gunna be gone all day I plan to turn them in the morning then again at night. Because i'm not always home to do it mid day. i have to many to fit in the egg turner right now. i have 5 dozen and the egg turner only fits 41 eggs.

When I was first getting into this incubation thing I read that the reason for odd numbers of turns were because people had other things going on in their lives but the odd number would mean that the eggs did not lay on the same side for the "long" period each day. Perhaps you could turn them when you get home and then before you hit the sack, then in the morning.

Maybe this helps.

Symptoms Probable Cause Corrective Measures

Blood rings Improper storage Follow recommended egg storage and gathering recommendations.
Improper incubation temperatures Check thermometer accuracy and incubator functions. Follow recommended temperature settings.
Improper breeder nutrition Feed breeders a diet with balanced nutrient levels.

OK I have one marans pip... i am hoping maybe they will hatch overnight... In the meantime we decided to drink some lychee wine
I made in 2011 and try to take my mind off it. Watching them doesnt seem to help.. :)
