One Marans Hatched last night, I have 5 eggs remaining in the incubator. I"m inclined to thing it's over because it seems to me
that they should hatch as a group. Has anyone ever experienced stragglers that hatched after the rest of the bunch.

disappointing, very much so. On the Marans threads they discuss this. Seems Marans eggs are a bit thicker than some others and apparently what happens is they don't dry down as much as they should, so then the chicks drown or are too big to turn to pip. They recommend a 'dry' incubation, 30% or lower humidity the first 18 days, so they lose enough weight, then 60%+ for hatch. I tried to hatch a dozen shipped eggs last fall, got two chicks, both boys.

I have other chicks growing out now that should be laying this summer, so I'll be trying this out then.

I have just bought an antique redwood 'bator, probably originally held 300 eggs. One tray is missing and one tray has been modified with hatching baskets. Just got it in the house and cleaned up today. Waiting for it to come up to temp now. The water pan is missing so I hadn't put in any water yet. It was running while I had the trays out to wash and sit in the sun and the humidity ran 12%. I put the trays back in and those old wood trays had soaked up some water; now it's 26%.

Had a temp spike during lockdown that reached at least 120F. Had 3 chicken eggs out of 28 & 14 quail eggs out of 29 left. None survived. Apparently this bator is in a BAD spot. Think the vibrations from my daughter opening & closing her dresser drawers is turning my temp knob. Bator will be moved before setting any more eggs in it.

I didn't get ANY. That's what was left that went into lockdown after all the other temp issues over the last 3 weeks. This hatch was 0%.

I bought a used Farm Innovators still air invubator on CL for 20 bucks

I tried it out and put some mutt eggs in for a test hatch. I killed them with a temo spike.

I hate that knob. It is way too sensitive. I went on ebay and bought a version of this:

I turn the knob in the built in thermostat up to hi and plug the bator's power cord into the thermostat. It works brilliantly and i have not had an issue with the bator since
