The neverending coop project. *Update - IT'S DONE!!!!!!*

Geez Kathy, don't sound so shocked!

It will be a huge relief when it is finished!

Cyn.....I thought of that, but my DH said that with the boards spanning 8 feet, there is no strength to the boards on the wide side. (certainly don't want it to break with my birds on it) If it doesn't work out this way, I'll move it around or add another roost with a wide side up. This coop is mainly for hens, but there will be a rooster or 2 for protection.

So knock dh in the head since he's not using it anyway. Get some more two by fours and screw them to the narrow-sided others with the four-inch side up makin' them stronger'n ever.
ETA I'm starting to get a sense of who's holding up this coop's completion.

I agree with Cyn. You should turn those 2x4s over .... wide side up. Yup, they will need it to keep their feet warm this winter in your cold climate and snow storms. Otherwise they will be using up all their energy trying to "balance" on the 2 inch skinny side. Ask me how I know that.

I know I have cried wolf once, but this time I think you have have actually lost the bet! I got four Icelandic eggs today. I only have three pullets of laying age. My other girls are just turning five months old. Plus, the fourth egg is bigger than the other three. Plus, Lukka's big fat, fifteen-week-old "baby" spent the entire day in the fig tree, avoiding it's mother completely. Hmmm, who laid that fourth egg?

p.s. I almost spewed my Dr. Pepper when I read Joe's comment.

Classic!

p.s.s I think any further delays in the completion of this coop will be due to the engineering analysis being done on the nest boxes I built. Kelly's DH is probably pulling retrospective building permits on them right now.

Ah well Mary, I tried. Can't win them all I suppose.

And DH doesn't think I should even paint the nest boxes. I gotta find some big screws to hang it with, that sucker IS heavy! I'm still trying to decide where I'm going to put it. This weekend we're putting up the fencing for the run.

Now I am gonna spew my coffee! Use big ole' "L" brackets! Just kidding. I had it sitting right on the floor because at the time, I had some of those lesser-brained chickens that couldn't get into it otherwise.

But they are somebody else's problem now. Maybe you should mount it like kitchen cabinets with a board on the wall and screw it into that. But what do I know?

Well I am glad it met with hubby's approval. I can tell you, the girls look adorable in it with the circle cut outs.

Yikes, fencing time is brutal. Every time we do any fencing we get cut up. But of course, we wear shorts and flip-flops and no gloves.

When this thing gets done, I think I should come up and we could christen it buy breaking open a bag of scratch across the front door! Well, you could, I'd be holding the camera!

WOW!!!!! Amazing coop! You really have inspired me, I was planning on coping out, and paying for one with money I should spend elsewhere, but hmmmm maybe???? I could do this? You are amazing!!!!
