I have an opal pair and two India blue hens (one I believe is a black shoulder). I can't say for sure who all is laying at the moment, but I've been catching the opal hen in the nesting areas.

USPS Claims

To anyone who might be interested. On Monday of this week 6/08 I had received eggs that were mailed. 6 out of 12 had detached air cells. of course some would reattach but that was not the point. The eggs were packed properly and snug in two boxes and on the box everywhere was up arrows and do not x-ray also on all sides was live embryos. So I took the eggs and my candler up to the manager of my local post office who had no clue about eggs so I brought a fresh egg to show her what the eggs should appear as and what the shouldn't. It was her first time seeing the inside of an egg so it was a lesson taught to her, after this was complete I had taken a scan of the shipping with the tracking off MY.USPS.com and had her sign it with a verification of the problem. Went online and filed a claim on the same day included copies of my paypal receipt that I scanned offline and the invoice off ebay,these I loaded on to the section for verification of price. ten where it says to upload a picture for proof of damage I uploaded the verification the Post Master had signed and stamped for the damage. Today 6/12 I received verification that the claim was approved and a check had been sent.

This is great information thank you! Last time I requested sender not to add egg or fragile stickers and the eggs showed up in much better shape. Not sure if it's a fluke, but I have heard others say the same thing.

I guess we should just try to get them refunded more and maybe they would address the issues?

Couple thoughts...I'm not sure if they can address the issue. The majority of the damage is done during the mechanical sorting and dumping of the priority boxes. Remember, the priority boxes include boxes up to 70 pounds. Also jiggling too long on the delivery trucks. I'm sure that sometimes the damage is human caused, and that's why we mark boxes however we mark them. The only people reading the boxes are the postal workers on either end.
The postal service has been pressured to not accept live eggs or animals. If they had to pay out a claim for every box of eggs with damaged air cells, (which would be the majority of them), they will stop accepting them. I think they will do this before changing their ways. They are after all a govt run business and customer satisfaction isn't a big deal.
I think it's great when they co-operate like that, and I do hope that more people can get reimbursement, but I think that was an exception. My postmaster said that they will not honor claims on eggs because you check a box when making labels that says you aren't mailing anything perishable.... They say all kinds of things in order to not be responsible.
