The NEW Crazy 24hr AUCTION thread

Quote:
if you have a dedicated broody hen they can hatch them out fine.. but you have to be prepared to rescue the eggs if she decides to abandon the nest...
THis is the second nest for both. Not sure why, poor hatching rates from my girls. I don' t really mind as I don't really want more ducks. THey were broken up from the first effort, and then they started collecting eggs again.

Scovies are hard to hatch..I have a way to hatch them that works pretty good if anyone wants the info..drop me a line.
Ok spill.

lol..

OK

Hand sanitation always
sterile incubator

If you watch a hen start her nesting, she sets the nest only at night the first 4-5 days..sometimes longer.
I plug in my incubator only at night for 4 days. I keep the turner plugged in till internal pip.
I leave the eggs in the turner till they internally pip.
The hens take a bath almost every other day after the first week
I slightly mist my eggs with warm water (105) every other day after the first week until internal pip.
I do not add water at all to the incubator until day 25. I try to keep it at 40% after day 25 to day 33, I bump it up to 55% after first internal pip. Hens do not get off to swim except once during the last few days of hatching. Once they hear ducklings they usually stay on the nest. That is why i do not increase humidity too high.
I do not pick up the eggs and handle them after I find the first internal pip..I add water, close the lid and do not open it again till they all hatch.
I start checking for internal pip on day 33 and add my water after first internal pip.
I had my first 100% hatch when i copied a hens routine. She had 7 eggs and I took 6 of her eggs. I wrote down every thing she did and copied it using the incubator.

You live in a different environment..try writing down the habits of your hens and copy for your environment.

I would want either call duck eggs or call ducklings. I can offer 7 mixed assortment silkie chicks that I just ordered from Ideal. I had to order more than I needed to make the $25 quota.

After some discussion on the Wellie thread (and now on the Nor Cal thread) we figured out these birds are from the UK - and are Bellecross Silver and Gold Welsummer Bamtams. Not easily obtainable in the US. The person is in San Diego. They want to sell the birds - not the eggs.
Figures I have no room and brrrrroke!

Hm, I've never done this before, but it sounds fun & I've got the eggs - someone stop me from turning on the cabinet incubator!!! 'Cause the Genesis is so full I've got it stacked.

I have 18 Mille Fleur Cochin eggs from my flock. Bidding starts at $40 plus $12 shipping priority. I've been getting at least 6 eggs a day from 2 pens & these are fresh and fertile, and I always pack well. I think they gave me 8 or 9 today. I collect often throughout the day and every single egg has been fertile since I set these pens up.
