The NEW Crazy 24hr AUCTION thread

Seriously... BIG difference from here and ebay.
I don't do ebay anymore. I'll throw eggs out first. Everybody that has received eggs from me knows I pack well. A lady on ebay made a claim that all the eggs where rotten and there was a small handful of shredded paper in the box. The eggs where at the bottom and most where broken. She wanted a refund and I refused. I offered to send more and I took pics of every step I took to pack the eggs exactly the same way I did the first time and as I do with all eggs I ship. So she got a free set of eggs for lying. I don't trust ebay people. I trust most all BYC'ers.

I'm very grateful BYCers are willing to share their eggs for hatching. I've only seen mutt eggs in my area. I know it takes time and money and frustration to ship eggs and I appreciate the effort. Now if I can get my incubating technique down better!!! I love the learning!

Chicks are easy. just cut their heads off with a pair of scissors and it's over. It breaks my heart but it's the right thing to do. As animal owners we are responsible for not letting them suffer. I've been hatching for several years now. It's gotten to where when I know it needs to be done I just do it and get it over with instead of letting it suffer till I get my nerve up.
I agree. I've just been lucky enough not to have to do it yet.

For the most part, I have had decent luck on eBay. Some hatches were disappointing but mostly due to the post office. I had one experience in which I only got 2/20 eggs to hatch. Five were infertile and 9/20 had broken air sacks. The seller & I have traded e-mails over the months and she provided 15 replacement eggs at no cost to me.

So yes, there are risks with using eBay and probably much more than this BYC market. Granted the BYC market is much more of a community and your reputation is gold, so most folks here are honorable in their transactions. It is also easier to research the seller and their reputation here than eBay.

As always, do your due diligence and make the best decision you can.

Not to mention many sellers are here AND Ebay, facebook, rarebirds, etc.

The biggest problem really has to be the USPS.
Recent changes: PO will supply "live embryos" tape and eggs will get handled as live animals rather than freight - but YOU have to request it. Also, insurance now can be had and if you open at PO and show detached air cells they must re-imburse.

That's great!! The eggs will be in much safer this way!! Do you have any kind of link to this info? The huge problem has been even though the eggs are marked fragile, they still just put them in with the rest of the packages - They are more careful with the individual packages, but when you have 500+ in a crate you can't tell what is what. About 50% of the parcels I deliver are marked fragile. In smaller areas FedEx deals with and separates (into destinations) - because we use their planes. So while your actual PO and Mail Carrier have some responsibly, Most of the damage is done in processing and transit.
