That is always the scary sleep. I was wondering what that little gold spot below the chick was.. then I re-read your post and realized you said AND... wow - size difference! That quail is teeny!

so meanwhile i'll keep on keeping on... one development tho, she seems to be more alert (off and on) but now she's drooling, and the last time I held the water bowl to her, she left a drop of blood in the water. nothing bleeding visibly and no signs of anything in the shavings, so i'm clueless about it.

as for sugar water (I don't have access to any electrolytes or Gatorade right now), i'm using hummingbird nectar concentrate added to the water. "contains vitamins and calcium" so IMO better than just plain sugar water.

when she left the drop of blood in the water.. was that before or after the hummingbird nectar?

Can you sniff her breath?.. I know that sounds odd.. I'm just wondering if the feed in her crop has soured

What color was the egg it hatched from? It doesn't look like one of her EE. It's not a Brahma chick. Hmmmm...

It's dark brown, like all the other ones. I can't wait to see what the other chicks look like. I have another one that pipped, and day 21 isn't till tomorrow.

Good Lord! Someone got out of his or her pen looks like well, guess no Marans eggs for sale for about 3 weeks! I'll PM you to see what I can do. Darn chickens lol
