The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Thanks everyone. When I told our daughter she asked "why did it have to be Pixie?"

I will gladly share photos of baby birds. I tried to take some of the first lot of finch chicks but the parents chose a budgie box that opens at one end. They have stuffed it full of straw, especially the end that slides open, and I have to peer in the little entrance hole with a torch to check them, and the hole is too small for the flash to catch them. They are so tiny their baldness is kind of cute, but they do look big and ugly in photos.

Good morning all

It's time for that first cup of coffee of the day

I'm a bit sad today - I found my darling Pixie dead this morning. She was my favourite and only a couple of years old. Poor baby! She just looked like she'd fallen off her perch during the night. Despite not being handled until we bought her as a pullet she was the friendliest girl. And the guy that breeds Old English Game Bantams is quite a drive away. It's at least a 3 1/2 hour round trip. Plus we already have way too many chickens - but OEGB's are so tiny, surely they don't count! At least I have baby Bourkes hatching soon to look forward to (hopefully around the 5th Feb), and I have finches with a nest full of 6 eggs (pretty sure they are all fertile too)! One pair of finches already has 4 babies so I'm going to be overrun soon! We've been waiting for baby Bourkes for ages now. We were sold one as a male (we already had a girl) but after 'he' took over the nest box and laid eggs we realised they'd got it rather wrong. Baby Bourkes are so cute as they hatch out fuzzy (unlike the finches who are bald for ages).
Very sad, she was a pretty chicken

I would love to see pictures of your new ones when they arrive.
