The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

yes ma'am.

I built it right before last winter, with the plans of getting seeds started early. I used two old trampoline jumping mats for the flooring, thinking it would keep weeds and grass from growing up.

wrong!!

I think it made it worse, gave the bermuda a great environment to grow.......lol
so now, I get to fight bermuda in my veggie plants all year long......lol

That's surprising, I would have thought the mats would have kept the weeds & grass out as well. Bugs, weeds, etc. all seem to have a new surprise in store for us every year.

Phil, Bermuda is a spreading grass. It's useful for filling in a yard but doesn't know to stay out of the garden. A real pesky thing that grows fast.

What is Bermuda?
I have switch grass growing in my garden...

Going to try to get started with. BTE gardening method this summer. Should get rid of weeds that way.

Phil, it's a great grass for a yard, but it's terrible in the garden, and no real way to get rid of it, except herbicide, and even then, next season it will be back. don't even try to till it away.......lol........just makes it thicker and spreads it.

I thought it would too. This year, I'm laying a triple layer of weed fabric, and then putting pea gravel down.

my greenhouse is similar to Blooie's hoop coop. I used 20' long 1" diameter pvc pipes, piece of 12' long corrugated metal along the bottom, then put up the clear greenhouse plastic sheeting. both ends are framed with pressure treated lumber, and the clear corrugated plastic up.

apparently I made a perfect environment for the bermuda to grow all year long.

Awesome! You could paten the design, make up a bunch of them and sell them for a tidy fortune to people that are trying to grow a new yard...even get them started with a free patch of grass when they buy one. I'm seeing some big bucks here Berts.
