The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hey KD

Still under construction so it will look much better when finished with plants etc:

There is a smaller pond still to be installed between the top pond and next one so the water drop is not so far.

Yes, you need filtration and moving water so that it does not go stagnant and the fishes have oxygenated / filtered water [same as tank]. The hole in the ground under the top pond is where the filter/pump will live. Water is drawn from the bottom pond, through the filter and up to the top pond where it cascades back down through two ponds to the bottom one. The pump is solar powered.

The top two ponds serve as bird baths for the local feathered residents and the bottom two are big enough to be home for fish.

This is how we had it set up at our old place with the filter inside the large flower pot:

Because it is not a glass tank, you do not need to worry about cleaning the walls and if you have the filter external as we do, it can be removed and cleaned without messing up the ponds or upsetting the fish.

I love listening to the cascading water and sitting and watching the fish; very relaxing.
Nice!

Thanks for all the info on the ponds. Yours are beautiful.

I think I want to build much bigger though but I'm bad with gallons and didn't realize how many gallons even the little ones are and just how BIG a big one would be. And expensive

I called her out of the blue today (stalked her on Whitepages ;) ). Had to make sure she was OK since she's my friend though we have never met and she's been gone so long.

Her CHF isn't helping her any but her voice sounded strong. Still having a hard time with Linda's passing. Those things are extra hard around holidays especially when people are close. I told her she was missed and if she decides to come back to the forums, this was a good place. No need to have chickens to visit here :D I don't know if she will but I hope so. She's a fun, witty lady.

That's nice you called her!

I hope she does come back and does she not have her chickens anymore?

Anytime I hear cascading water I know I'm way behind on cleaning the aquarium. It doesn't make any noise when the water level is near the top ;)

Very true lol

No, she divested earlier this year. With her son, daughter-in-law and the 2 grand girls moving from across the street (though just to 6 blocks away) she lost her chicken sitter (older GD, now 12). With all the Masonic Lodge travelling they are doing she decided it was better to give them away while they were healthy than try to figure out how to have them cared for.

Teila, love the pond pictures. It will be nice for you when the new one is complete. A friend of mine in KS had several in her backyard and it was always fun to watch the fish & listen to the water.

Share a picture with us when you finish your current one!

I'm glad you called her, it's good for her to know no one has forgotten her. She's always welcome here.

I just checked the WY DOT website. I80 (the highway we take to Cheyenne) is closed all the way from here to Laramie for the next 10-12 hours due to the weather.

"Road Closed Due To Winter Conditions
As of December 23 at 03:19 p.m., the estimated opening time is in 10 to 12 hours. Parking on the roadway is prohibited and delays WYDOT from opening the road."

Sheesh, we might be stuck at home for tomorrow too. Guess if that happens, at least I have BYC folks to hang with!
