The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Okay so not to be a pest but can somebody please explain to me the difference between the different types of quail listed on all these websites and which kind, if any, I would be legally allowed to keep? These are the only hatcheries I could find that sold quail. Most either didn't or only sold bobwhite which is illegal here without a permit. Maybe eBay is best? These minimums seem high and expensive if I buy the minimum but at this stage I am mostly just still doing research hah

Shipping chicks would be a lot more risky and you'd have to expect a lot to die. In that first week especially they are quite delicate little things and unlike chicken chicks they need to start eating soon after hatching. They are easy to incubate and hatch though.

You are wanting Coturnix/Japanese/Jumbo/Pharaoh (that's the wild colouring). There are lots of pretty colours available other than the pharaoh too. Tibetan, Texas A&M, Rosetta, Tuxedo and many others!

That sounds like a good plan! I have always wanted to go but was worried it was too touristy or crowded haha

My mom loves Glacier and Banff

Are they on ebay?

Thanks for the info!

Any other cool areas tourists wouldn't think of?
Yes ebay, the sellers handle is quailkingjosh. Recommended by a BYCer. My tracking # says they were delivered, but not due to the 6th. Usps drives me nuts.

Have you looked at Craigslist? The problem with hatcheries is you have to order so many.

Thanks! So like for instance in the purely poultry link when it mentions Tibetan, Texas A&M, pharaoh, etc., arw those just different colors?

What about the button, valley, mountain, gambrel, blue scale, etc. It also lists?

Thanks. Can you search usernames on ebay?

I've found quite a few listings for like 50, 100, etc. Jumbo coturnix eggs.

@KDOGG331 have you checked the buy-sell-trade forum? Maybe getting fertile eggs is the way to go?

I have not looked at either of those yet but good ideas! Yes the minimum order is offputting cause if you have to order 50 or 100 at $2 or $3+ a chick that's very quickly over $100 or $200!

I was mostly just doing research and the purely poultry page especially confused me just because they have sooo many kinds! And I got thrown off by the pharaoh thing!

The quail eggs do ship better than chicken eggs.

That's good to know. Do they fit in a regular incubator?

They are smaller so need smaller rails. Most incubators come with them
